In one weeks time (20th June) the asian warlord shall be setting sail for blighty, having packed his bags for the last time and said good bye to all that remains of Iraq. On Tuesday the 15th, 2 days from now I'll have been here for a full year. I look back at the year gone buy. A year ago I was called up as a reserve soldier and mobilised to come to Iraq. Five months as a soldier in Iraq was some experience, one I'll never forget but never want to repeat. There were good times and there were bad times then there were the fire fights where you loose all concept of whats good or bad and you just fight to keep you and the boys alive.
November came and I was offered a job to come back as a civilian as an environmental consultant for the coalition. Seven months later I look back on all I've done and can honestly say I've helped some people, I've instigated projects and plans to improve their life and living environment, however as I prepare to leave in 7 days time and the Black Hawks and Chinoocks circle over head moving people and equipment out of our camp, I have to wonder what shall become of these people, how will Iraq progress from this date? The people of Iraq and the rest of the world make the call, Iraq could be a wonderful country, so much history, the gateway from Europe to Asia and the potential for great Ski fields in Kurdistan in the North of the country, but the question is will Human society allow this country's potential to be reached???
