I know plenty are more qualified than me to comment on what's normal for Sweden but I did think on average compared to my previous 4 weeks of O in Sweden that they were rougher and more hilly. Quite a few more brashed/felled areas than I've seen before. Really enjoyed them though apart from day 3 where 13km was way too far for my fat body. Anybody know what the winning times were supposed to be aimed at for H21L? Days 1,2 and 5 were won in 71, 66 and 69. On day 3 the winning time was 90. Was this intended or was the planner a sadist?
Brilliant organisation so respect to everybody involved. One minor gripe which hopefully they worked out for themselves for next time, was the H21L start times on day 5. I'm guessing the longest run times of all courses were the slower H21L's so don't know what wisdom made them start us last of all. The start was being packed up around me, the field was deserted when I finished (in a not fast but respectible time), I got told I had 5 mins to shower because the water was going off, and the bus man said that busses finished at 1630 although he did to my enternal gratitude organise one for me and all the other fat H21L's that were half showered.

That is the problem with chasing starts!, but the other is the depression of being in the field preparing to run when the winner of your course runs in

I only ever seemed to meet Brits at my starts, whereas I seemed to find Irish people ALL over the place!
Pity I was so segragated from the crowds though the place we were staying was well nice!
Next time, I'm camping!!

I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.

'm afraid i wasn't greatly impressed by the terrain, hard, yes, physical, yes, it was agood challenge, but i just didn't like it, perhaps because unlike a more runnable area like the ones in portugal, it didn't allow me to flow as well
I have to say, I'm another that disagrees with you Robert, I thought the areas were great. Loads of variety, interesting, a real technical challenge. Day 1 was the weakest, but enjoyed them all. Day 4 was a real stonker (my first time on that sort of stuff), but days 3 and 5 were particularly good too. Given the difficulties that O-ringen organisers must have in arranging forest that can handle the numbers, I thought the orienteering was outstanding.
Having not been to the O-ringen for 26 years, the thing that really stood out for me was the bussing. Incredibly slick, I just loved the way the Swedish Army were employed to stop all other traffic, letting us sweep through red lights and all. And I look forward to the day we are able to close a motorway junction down just to enable runners to reach the finish field - too good!

Glad to hear that the majority of you enjoyed the courses. I have had several people involved in the organisation asking me what other Brits had thought about the event so I have passed on some of your comments. The spread of the camping sites was always going to be a difficulty but it would have been even worse if so many people had decided not to camp this year. The terrain around Göteborg is different from what you find in many other parts of Scandinavia. It is widely recognised as being both physical and technical so if you got on alright there then you're not doing too badly. I was out all day at Torslanda, monitoring controls and watching out for injured runners. Amazingly we only had 4 or 5 people getting anything more than cuts and bruises with a damaged ankle apparently the worst. Quite funny to sit and watch people I know running around on the open rock, looking confused, especially at the controls hidden in the rock cracks (I had difficulty finding them even after visiting them several times). We finally finished clearing up yesterday so I think a holiday is needed. I've been told that the O-Ringen may be up here in Norbotten in 2009, based at the helicopter base in Boden with all camping and events within cycling distance. Have to watch out for bears in the woods there.

It is seriously hot here - in fact the weathers been getting better every day. Have to say Robert I just don´t know what you were expecting- I thought it was brilliant - every day - even the first day when I FINISHED LAST IN MY CLASS - but still managed to make the chasing start by virtue of pulling it back together during the rest of the week. thought day 4 and 5 were stunning.

I thought this years O ringen was the best event I´ve ever been to. Day 4 was the best area I´ve ever run on being physical, very technical but so runable. The organisation is the best and its so good not to have a long drive to and from events, just a rest on the bus. If only the Scottish 6 days had bussing. Were comming out next year and the year after, thats how much we like it.

I'm leaving Sweden tomorrow after having an amazing 2 1/2 weeks - gonna have that "back to school" kind of feeling...
met a random swedish cyclist today who had also been to o-ringen (he tells me his club drink more than train so I don't think it's a well known one) - he reckoned it was a bit too near the city for him but he's looking forward to next year
being my first o-ringen I didn't have anything to compare this year with but I thought it was wicked and I can't wait for next year
