Hello,
After a hive of activity in the transfer market, NOC are considering another jolly out to Jukola next year. I appear to have "volunteered" for the role of organising said trip and was wondering whether anyone has looked at transport options already?
My thoughts are that whilst the event is c10km from Vantaa airport, no cheap airlines fly here and the best option I can see is Ryanair to Tampere and then hire car to the event.
Has anyone got any better ideas for getting there that I can plagiarise?
Thanks!!

Can usually get some decent flights to Vantaa, but failing that you could fly cheaply to either Stockholm or Tallinn and get the ferry across to Helsinki, especially fun for the return journey.

There will be public transport from Tampere to Helsingfors to tie in with Ryanair flights I guess... anyway there are direct express coach services.
Ryanair fly to Tallinn and ,as Brooner said, it's easy enough to get a ferry across the Baltic... fast one's take about 90mins (Linde Line is fastest I think) and the big boats take 2.5 hours... Midsummer there might even be a slow overnight cruise if the flight is later in the day...
These people in Tallinn offer a good service if you want to drop them a note

LHR - HEL return Fri eve to Sun eve £161 with BA I would call a good deal. Get a shuttle bus to the event. Save the driving/hire car hassles and 10 euro parking fee. The car is just going to sit there all weekend anyway. Get treated like a human being on the plane, free food and drink onboard, there is a bit of leg room so you dont have to sit with your knees in your cheeks. Seats recline and you'll arrive better to race. Lots of free bagage allowance so you can take sleeping bags, mats, food, etc and not worry.
Although I hear some like to suffer on Irish based planes...
If you can go out early and want to fly/drive, there is always the Forssa Games on Thursday Eve - forest middle distance. www.forssagames.fi. If you fly into Turku, it is not an unreasonable detour sort on the way to Helsinki and we just camped in the car park after the race when we were there last and nobody cared.

Yes - this is an open race. Different age classes, etc...
The one and only time I did it, we just hung back till the cars left the car park and camped in the field. The next day we re ran the course as training and drove to Jukola and stayed in our Army tents the next 2 nights for the race. That saves some accom pennies. We had good weather however...
