It has been brought to my attention that some universities would be eager to take cheeper public transport options (up) to Edinburgh next year leaving them with no way to easily get out to the events. If this includes your university this might be useful, and if not you might be useful for the other universities.
I would initially persuade universities potentially in this situation to see if they can arrange something between themselves or with other friendly universities who may have some space.
If there appears to be a very large demand for local transport I may try and sort something more official out.

Re: BUCS 2011 event transport
The event is outside full term for Oxford. Since a large number of our members live considerably to the north I imagine we will not be likely to travel to Edinburgh as a group.
Although we could hire a minibus it would be entirely dependent on one of our drivers being willing to go back to Oxford to get it then drive all the way north again. This is unlikely.
We have two club members in Scotland who can drive and last year we only had a few over 10 people at BUCs so it is most likely we will use those two cars and look for lifts for the remaining few.

It's also outside of term for Cambridge. I don't think anybody from Cambridge lives in Scotland, so a lot of us would be traveling up. Because of the problems we have getting minibuses we would probably prefer to fly. Generally there aren't many people with cars but I don't know how many of the freshers may be able to borrow them. If there was official transport organised this would certainly help us, probably about 10 people.

I think the best solution I've had is to take trains out to near the events and Edinburgh organise/help shuttle people to the area.
