there aren't any, at least not from Blighty - maybe one or two German internal ones, but it's a spanking new airport at Dresden and I think they charge lots of money for anyone to fly to/from there...
Easyjet fly to Berlin Schönefeld from lots of places in UK, which has a station right at the airport with lots of direct fast trains (1½ hours-ish) to Dresden (it's on the main line Berlin-Prague). Similarly, Prague has good trains straight to Dresden (about 2 hours), but a bit more expensive as they cross the border.
Ryanair fly to Schönefeld as well, but just from Stansted, and to Leipzig Altenberg which isn't that far from Dresden but the airport's in the middle of nowhere...
Edited to add:
If you're going from Edinburgh, Germanwings (lufthansa's cheap airline) fly Edinburgh-Cologne/Bonn and then Cologne/Bonn-Dresden - prices start €19 per section I think, but might still be the cheapest if the flights match up in the middle

A bit late now... But Germanwings might be a solution. Germanwings offers Edinburgh-Cologne and Cologne-Dresden, should be enough time to check in and out in Cologne although they will not offer you both flights as a connection. This does only work for one way. On the way back you need a stay in Cologne or an alternative. If you book at Germanwings please do me the favour and use the link on http://www.trail-o.de. Another option is Easyjet flying from Newcastle to Berlin, from where you have a good train connection to Dresden.

Air Berlin do some interesting routes out of stanstead at £19 which is inclusive of tax and stuff thats about a £3.99 Ryanair equivalant - they go the Berlin (obviously) which is not a million miles to Dresden - have already booked ski-ing flights for next year - Feb half term and still only £184 return total for all 5 of us

it's Berlin Tegel though, isn't it? That's a right pain to get to (no train/u or s-bahn, only buses and motorway) - and it's the wrong side of Berlin for Dresden (i.e. NW instead of S).

well I'm not surprised there's a catch - it's just one to bear in mind - we're flying to Nurnburg and hiring a car - and that could still be a cheaper combination than flying closer if there is a group of you The H.s en masse constitute a group in their own right!)
