There is Micro-o in York Park Race - What is it all about?
I understand they had it last year - is this years same?
It is supposed to be in the Castle Museum or somewhere, but how does that work??
Any help be appreciated on what to expect.

Re: York Park Race
Last year it was a combination of micro-o and trail-o. It was in York Railway Museum, and was untimed (no running allowed!). The score you got on the trail-o was then converted into a time penalty that was applied to your start time on the main street race.
It's in a different museum this year (not NRM), but I guess the other arrangements will be the same or similar.

any particular reason why online entries weren't used for this. I'm coming, but haven't pre-entered as was umm-ing and ahh-ing and missed the postal date.
Turning up early so should be able to get a map (and then back to Sheffield to hit the books for the rest of the day.)

For some reason, Ebor never have for this race. Don't know why.

There is a very good article by Steve Whitehead in the February 2009 issue of CompassSport magazine. Certainly explains how the 2008 race worked..... fascinating combination of walking around the museum followed by a sprint round the city.

Re: York Park Race
I have to admit that I wasn't enthusiastic when it was introduced last year, not being a fan of Trail-O or its ilk, but it was a fun way to start the event off, was the only way that the railway museum could have been used, and didn't overly influence the race section (perhaps my biggest concern). All in all, Ebor got it right, it proved a success, and certainly added to the post event chat! Wouldn't want it at every event though!!

Re: York Park Race
It's not much, but I feel that with the microO I'm getting more for my money! Hardly affects the results (I lost about 30secs last year - most lost at least 10 because of the one where none of the kites are in the right place which we all handily forgot!)
Just meant I had to wait that little bit longer to catch my 1minute man, as he was actually my 1min20 man!

The micro-o was the most interesting part of today's event for me, even if it cost me 30 seconds in penalties!

Horses for courses.
I found the micro trail-O (certainly not micro-0) section fairly uninteresting, and it resulted in my being out at the event longer than I wanted, with 2 extra periods of queuing involved also, at the start and end of this section.
In retrospect I would have quite happily started with the 50 secs maximum penalty. The real race was thoroughly enjoyable and worth returning for without the trail-O section.

Have to agree with Seabird on the museum bit. Wasn't overkeen on the butterfly loops area either. Much preferred previous years of city racing, but you can't win 'em all
Just noticed that the finish was marked incorrectly, wonder if it affected anybody?
Didn't see start triangle either

Do you mean start kite or start triangle? - if triangle there's certainly one on my map

I'm not convinced about the micro O - It seemed to use a lot of manpower and it certainly slowed things down. Personally Course C looked the most interesting. Running out and back to the butterfly area was a bit boring.
