As you know some of us are having difficulties with access to areas for orienteering events in the south of England
To get round this and give us some good events during the forthcoming months WIM are putting on a series of urban events using 1:5,000 maps drawn to sprint specification
The first event is at Gillingham, Dorset on Sunday afternoon 7th June
The second is at Blandford Forum in Dorset on Saturday morning 18th July
The third is at Dorchester in Dorset on Saturday 22nd August
Then WSX are staging the inaugral South West Sprint Championships at Bournemouth University on Saturday 5th September
Details of all of these events can be found on the WIM and WSX websites

Re: Summer Fixtures
Count me in. Just love this form of racing. I even run all the course
Very unusual for me.

And having just completed the Aire Spring Sprint series this Wednesday the Aire Summer Sprint Series of 6 races starts at Esholt on Wednesday 3 June.

And also increasingly popular. The format seems to suit summer evening events perfectly, with a 15 minute winning time for an M21E (thank you Matt Crane!) equating to 20-30 minutes for the bulk of the rest of us. The Summer Sprint Series is a direct result of the popularity of the spring series, with over 50 running the final race. What's also been interesting has been the profile, with almost 50% of the runners being M/W21-35, somewhat different to our more conventional events. I'd be interested to hear of other clubs' experiences.

And Moravian's sprint league runs right through the year with one a month. Mind you we are not bessed with M/W21s!

Combine this with The Beast on 6 Sep (Corfe Castle to the coast and back, 13-14 miles off-road) for a great weekend.

Re: Summer Fixtures
There is also the first SOC event on the Sunday 6th after the Bournemouth Uni Sprint - they always have an event in the New Forest as soon as we are all allowed 'in' again. Most years recently it has also been combined with the New Forest Long O event
Also there is an event at Kingston Maurward College on the Sunday - the day after the Blandford Forum sprint - so again two days of events.

I hope that is tongue in cheek Mharky!?
Something needs to be done to increase participationn if the M21 numbers at the Scottish are anything to go by! 16 on E, but only one other on the A class!
