Lincoln City Race
Does anyone know if this event is going ahead on 14th September? I can't find any information and the link on the Lincoln Club Website goes nowhere?

Yes the really worrying thing is that there is a Lincoln City Race in the fixture list for January 25th next year - which clashes with the Edinburgh weekend which we have already committed to attending - two city races on one weekend would be tragic - i too was hoping the September date would go ahead but it doesn't look like it now - Lincoln Steve, Johnloguk - where are you?

Looks like you are right Mrs H, bad planning that as we will certainly be going to the Edinburgh weekend - what's happening with the league guys?!

I can confirm that the event planned for September was moved back to January, due to a clash with AIRE's regional event. Unfortunately, this does coincide with the Edinburgh event, but this was not forseen at the time and will probably create fewer issues than coinciding with a more 'local' event in Yorkshire

I'm not so sure it would - I think there's a growing number of people that would be prepared to travel long distances for a high quality city race, such as those I've experienced in both Lincoln and Edinburgh.
In my opinion, a city race clashing with a local orienteering event is less of an issue, because I think they appeal to different groups of people - one isn't necessarily taking people from the other, whereas with two city races together, people who would be prepared to travel whatever distance, have to chose.
I for one would be prepared to travel from London to Lincoln or Edinburgh for "just" a city race - return travel to both cities can be done for under £30 if you are organised.
I certainly hope that some will make the effort to travel a long way for the City of London race in October...

Stop talking, start running.

Re: Lincoln City Race
The evidence from our two previous city races suggest that a single day event in Lincoln is not as attractive as the full weekend experience. The first, when tied in with the Bomber weekend, was very popular, as you would expect. The second, as a stand alone event, produced a more hardcore following, of which the majority were East Midlands and South Yorkshire orienteers. If we clashed with AIRE, it is probablethat we would lose a fair proportion of these, as I think they'd choose a Regional event over us.
Going with the second date, it is likely that we'll lose a number of 'city racers' to Edinburgh, particularly as this is a weekend event, but we still anticpate picking up a fair following again from the orienteering population of EM and SY, and, based on our last event, this is probably going to provide us with a better turn-out than the initial clashing date.

Re: Lincoln City Race
Speaking as a relative local (i.e. YH member), I would have probably gone to Lincoln instead of Ilkley (even though Ilkley is only 5 miles a way), but will almost certainly go to Edinburgh. I do hope the change of date works out, but it's certainly a much more regrettable clash for us now than it was. Even better would have been a non-clashing Lincolnshire Bomber weekend, just as we enjoyed first time round.

Re: Lincoln City Race
It's a shame, speaking personally i am prepared to travel to Edinburgh and London (already made arrangements) and Lincoln if it didn't clash - I will not be going to Aire for a regional event.
I think the city race circuit is growing in following and it's a shame to dilute that now although I understand LOG's concerns. It is a very great pity that no alternative date (this year) could be found.
Oh! snap Andy.

The Bomber is back - 25th/26th April 2009 - and will include relays at Riseholme Park, Lincoln on the Saturday and then a Long O and a C4 on the Sunday, using the very lovely Earl of Yarborough estate in North Lincolnshire.

Re: Lincoln City Race
For the keen city racers, I believe CUOC are staging a Cambridge City race as part of the Thetford Thrash weekend 7/8 February 2009. I know they were talking about it in the past, but it's now on both the CUOC and BOF websites already, so I guess they must be going ahead...
