Small numbers?

There is a lot of concern over declining numbers in the UK even though in this part of the World numbers seem to have been increasing for a couple of years.

Just take a look at a South African report on http://www.penoc.org.za/

25 starts on four courses and the organiser says "The turn out at the event was pleasing " and lots of new faces.

Its a common problem in the remoter parts of big countries.
ORCA (ORegon CAscades Orienteering Klubb) is located in a university town of 30k students, and events are very low numbers, and the club core is insufficient to sustain/develop more.
But not universal. Graeme mentioned elsewhere that one of his favourite event areas was near Diamond Bay, Laramie WY: world class area, good, active orienteering population; WY total population <400k in an area as big as GB.
