Interesting to see the list of runners high tailing it from Czeck to Sweden for O Ringen World Cup next week. Interestingly they contain runners from non-IOF member countries.... didn't know that was allowed:)
It also seems that there are no females entered from GBR... that must be a first !!!!!!!

Re: WORLD CUP - ORINGEN
yeah well better to try to let the orienteering do the talking...
I think those who went there training after Jukola scoped out most of the pubs already but your imput will be valuable as always

Do you blame her - she's still young enough to squeeze through any potential "opening doors".

Re: WORLD CUP - ORINGEN
i'm 26 which is about the last age that you don't pause and go "i'm.. am I really.. 27/28/29". but 27 is still mid twenties. 28 is late twenties.
you can critiscise the system at any age, but then you aren't going to get anything for free or even for cheap, especially selections. so I'd better keep improving! but noone reads nopesport anyway right? time to go training..

it's all changed now...these days 26 is still teenage, whereas 44, now that's mid twenties....

time to go training...

Re: WORLD CUP - ORINGEN
When I started orienteering (and that was in my 20s) the oldest age group was M/W56 and that was only at championships and had about 3 men and 1 woman. I can tell you Harry they seemed utterly ancient to me.
Now I'm at that age as are nearly half the competitors, and it seems a hell of a lot younger from here

Re: WORLD CUP - ORINGEN
hehe
well here are somethings to aim for:-
woc 2009 Hungary
woc 2010 Trondheim (my home town)
woc 2011 Roanne Alps, France
woc 2012 Switzerland (just announced)
& sounds like 2013 might be in Finland?
pyrat thinks this is completely boring but I think it's cool that he will have experienced the World Champs in a sport he competes in in the town where he lives twice (Inverness 1999 and Trondheim 2010). Is that rare? And yes I know both Inverness and Trondheim consider themselves cities but I beg to differ. Well maybe T'heim is.

Re: WORLD CUP - ORINGEN
I'm looking forward to WOC Hungary 2009. All being well I'll be there with wife and daughter to cheer the Brits on, and to run in the public events (Hungaria Cup). Miskolc is a bit of a dump but the hills make up for it! I spent four years in Hungary and did some orienteering in the Bukk - not dissimilar to the terrain this week in Czech. Aggtelek is a different kettle of fish and should make a great area for the Long.
I hope all our elite runners will be at the Hungarian Long Distance Champs in October - the only guaranteed opportunity for competitive training in the karst.
