From my recollection Gross the 2 minute road crossing wasn't changed late in the day. And i know the marshall you are talking about - he asked you to move onm and after you didn't get on with it realised that he recognised you. At which point he said something along the lines of:
"Gross - get a move on or I will have you disqualified".
I don't believe he actually did get you disqualified, you must have managed that all by yourself.
Personally i don't see a problem with having timed crossing - when you are orienteering competitively you generally just want to keep moving so as to not loose your stride.

I'm afraid that I'm not convinced that this is fair and may increase the danger of runners lurking on one side of the road for a minute and a half and then having to cross a busy road in a smaller time window.
Of course I fall into the class of competitor who would welcome a 2 minute rest in the middle of a race.
Exactly, at the world schools qualification race, paul hutton had a lancaster grammar person 30 sceonds ahead of him at the road crossing which was timed. The lancaster grammar person waited on the otherside of the road and waited until paul punched and then punched and followed him
I think there shoukd have been a timed crossing on day 2 of this years Jk on all courses that crossed the road - this would mean 3 un-timed road crossings for elites. they should have put the final on at the top of that b*tch of a hill. (not that i'm comlaining or anything)
With the train in loch vaa maybe you should only punch if you are affected by traffic - pre electronic punching i had 1 30sec wait to cross a ropad and was 3rd at the Jk, 20seconds of 2nd - so it does make a difference - every second counts
