This won't work for everyone, but I thought I'd share with you a 'medical' experience.
I'd been suffering for some weeks with a sore Achilles, which was always worse after running than before. I tried all the usual tricks, stretching, Ice, cutting down the shoe heel, using different shoes, and nothing seemed to improve it. I thought I might have to cut back on orienteering for a bit, but hadn't got desperate enough to resort to that.
Then one day while taking my socks off, I noticed that it was sorest immediately under the top of the sock, where there was elastic to hold the sock up. So I changed to a different make of socks, and this has completely cured it. The elastic on the original socks wasn't particularly tight, and I wouldn't have believed it would cause any trouble, but obviously the tendon disagreed!
So if you've got any strained or sore bits, think about whether a change of kit could possibly help.
