events listings
I spent a good hour last night tracking down all the O-related activity taking place in the West Midlands in the next month. (The results of my efforts are here: http://reentrant.wordpress.com/2008/05/23/coming-up-in-june/) The BOF/WMOA listings are pretty inadequate(!) http://www.pgopage.btinternet.co.uk/id22.htm, and Ollie O'Brien's events map relies on the info he's given, which is also patchy. Are there any regions that are good at collating and presenting details of future events?

Re: events listings
For Cumbria, the best listing is available on the Lakes-O gateway website at http://www.lakes-o.freeserve.co.uk/ by clicking on "Fixtures Where & When". I believe, though, that there may be an event on the 17th July missing from the list.

I think that one is a club only (WCOC) event.... the Parish Relays..... although so long as 'others' let the club know they are coming and book maps then they are more than welcome! Teams of three with short courses, seven in all, to be completed by the team, and then a final short loop to finish. Great fun..... and exhausting!!

Adrian,
you've missed out the British Orieneteering coaching day on Corndon and Stapeley on June 7th: a veritable feast of O in the WM that weekend

Re: events listings
The events missing from the BOF lists are not there because the clubs have not requested publicity for their events when they registered them! They are quite happy for them to be visible to their own club members but in some cases don't want/need extra competitors.

Re: events listings
Dear Mr PGO, If you click on the link to your page in my post above, you'll find that the June WMOA listings consist of just four (evening!) events.

Dear Adrian
Ah - I have now uploaded the correct file - but then problem solving has never been a strength of this Forum when to query rather than criticise is sometimes a better way forward.

I'm very impressed with the detail in the MVOC events calendar, that generally lists events in the SEOA and SCOA areas: http://www.mvoc.org/Events_Calendar.htm

Re: events listings
What about "Funky Fixtures". Son uses it regularly. Seems to be countrywide (UK!!) and choose distance you are willing to travel + dates.
Will this link work? http://www.oobrien.com/map/index
My other method, for the smaller events, evening events etc that creep under the BO radar is to trawl all the "local" club websites not forgetting thoses ever the county boundaries but still within reasonable travelling distance. Some of the websites very obligingly also publish lists of localish fixtures not just their own clubs.
It can be time consuming though I agree and has to be repeated every 2 weeks or so to spot any late additions.

Re: events listings
The south east oa sends a group email every week listing the forthcoming events. Basically a copy of the seoa event webpage. Very handy for local events announced at the last minute. It's good internal publicity as it reaches those orienteers who, for whatever reason, don't regularly search website for events, though they do have to register for the mailing list.
