My December CompassSport arrived today, and with it came the jk:2008 brochure. Some details about the Sprint event were finalised after the brochure went to press and updates will appear on the JK website http://www.jk2008.org.uk soon. In the meantime, three important bits of info will help competitors to know how to enter:-
1) Medals: JK Medals will be awarded to the first three in every age class from M/W10 to M/W80, i.e. the awards will not be to class groupings contrary to what the brochure states.
2) Provisional class combinations are:-
1 M21 M20 M18
2 W21 W20 W18
3 M35 M40 M45
4 M50 M16 M14
5 M55 W35 W16 W14
6 M60 W40 W45
7 M65 M70 W50 W55 W60
8 M75 M80 M12 W65 W70 W75 W80 W12
9 M10 W10
3) All starts will be afternoon starts in order to allow competitors to travel. The last starts are provisionally set for 4 pm (sunset is 6.13 pm)
We are expecting this to be the best attended Sprint race in Britain ever, building on the successes of the JK Sprint in the last two years, and we have chosen world-class terrain to make it all worthwhile. The map is the same as that used for the World Cup in 2005 and the courses promise to be as challenging as they come!
A slightly different matter: We are now referring to the Sprint day as Day 1, the two Long race days now becoming Days 2 and 3 as a result, to emphasise the fact that the Sprint race is now a fixed part of the JK Festival. However, various articles in CompassSport still refer to the Long race days as 1 and 2, and not 2 and 3. Be very aware!

Re: JK Sprint 08
By class combinations do you mean courses? Does that mean that as an M35 I have to run up to do the elite course (which the M18s are on)?

Yes, the course numbers are 1 to 9, with course 1 being for M18/20/21. If you run this course you can win an M21 medal but not an M35 one, just as for the other days.
Also, there isn't really such a thing as an elite course. All 18s, 20s and 21s can enter for course 1; there will no doubt be a seeded block however.

Presumably the sprint doesn't count for the individual trophy? So you can run the M21 sprint and the M35 individual.
And there aren't long races either, except for elites on day 3. The individual days are shorter than at National events.
Looking forward to it already,
Graeme

Correct on both counts
And again: And there aren't long races either, except for elites on day 3. The individual days are shorter than at National events.
Yes, sorry. I had a non-elite hat on when I wrote that. And, yes, the individual days are 10% shorter than for a National Event (unless Day 2 was a Middle race) as per the JK Guideline. I used the description "Long" to distinguish the discipline from Sprint or Middle ... I know of no definition of "Long" except that it is longer than "Middle" anyway!
