With Christmas approaching and the forum quiete, it must be about about time that we all gave a few thoughts to our event of the year, what has been good during 2007 and what could be improved.
For my own two-penneth, the event I enjoyed most was the British Sprint/ Middle weekend.
Great maps and courses both days, good weather and good company. I am sure the rest of you will have other ideas.

I have been trying to stir up a bit of debate - but no-one's biting

It's really hard but I think I'll go with the Scarborough Sprint - it was one pf several great events last year - but it was the "party on the beach" EVO atmosphere which really set it apart.
Other high points were the middle distance the next day for the quality of the planning and the Warwick event for getting us into the castle.

The better conundrum was how to get out

Re: EVENT OF THE YEAR
Harlequins' first night street league event of this winter ... not just the best event this year - the best event ever!
Why? - it was held in Venice (yes, the real one) at night, with the start and finish in a bar
- absolutely brilliant!

Re: EVENT OF THE YEAR
No stand out event this year unlike Zermatt the year before - the stand out event of all time.
Loads of great events this year, but the JK probably gets my UK vote for everything including weather, and Balavil in the 6-day the sheer technical interest.

Scarborough for novelty value, and excellent mapping.
I would vote for Culbin, but it'll be better there next year.

Istanbul 5, specifically the night sprint in the grand bazaar (pics, tho sadly no map).
An amazing week of orienteering, really laid back, good mix of nationalities and a cracking event party.
I've not done nearly enough orienteering this year in this country to chose something closer to home.

Re: EVENT OF THE YEAR
Scarborough was good, but for me was spoiled by the attack of the killer bluebells on eldest son in the final. This resulted in a visit to A&E and a departure on crutches. The worry destroyed concentration for my own final run.
Could his 90 mins hobble, or almost 30 mins/k, be the slowest ever successful completion of an "A" sprint final ?
The outstanding event of last year was definitely Zermatt; not sure about this year, maybe the rerun of the original November Classic 40 years on. Warwick looked good, but don't feel I can vote for that as I didn't compete.
The worst by far this year was definitely Salcey (terrain & vegitation, not organisation)

Re: EVENT OF THE YEAR
Scarborough tops my list as well for domestic races, with the Aire Long-O, Anagach (Scottish Day 6) and the Lincoln Street race in January close behind. Overall, however, my vote goes to the Venice Street Race (but I wish I'd been at the Istanbul 5!).

My favourite from the smallish number of events I've done this year was probably the Dartmoor long-O - low key, good value and great terrain.

Most fun - the White Rose night score.
UK - Culbin or Balavil.
Overall - has to be Jukola.
