What constitutes an evening meal for all you elite student orienteers? I'm really struggling to find something which I can prepare quickly and isn't really bad for me and isn't pasta and cheese (there's only so much I can take).

last night was pasta bake
tonight is training then the pub, so probably chips in between the two unless I decide to go to Safeway and see if they've got any savoury wheels reduced
tomorrow will probably be fresh pasta
other favourites include curry (home-made) with rice & naan, mushroom stroganof with rice, mushroom crumble with potato, lasagne (home-made) with potato, pasta with veg&tomato-y sauce, pasta with veg&tomato-y sauce and pasta with veg&tomato-y sauce. Oh, and occasionally pizza, usually with pasta just to make up the carbs.
We've got a list somewhere of all the dinners we can think of so that we remember what we can cook and don't just eat pasta the whole time. It's a good idea, but pasta with veg&tomato-y sauce still tends to feature quite heavily...

stir fry veg, dead easy just chop everything up and throw in a wok with some oil and soy sauce, I have with rice, noodles or jacket potato, you can get loads of sauces to put in but just as veg is also nice. As a veggie I've also perfected the art of making tofu and quorn taste of something but can't imagine thats to everyone's tastes

Heh heh - the night the boys in my flat made toad in the hole they sat on the floor around the oven and watched it rise for half an hour- food AND free entertainment! Though be prepared for all round dismay as it collapses when you open the door to take a closer look!
Home made curry's a good one - buy curry paste, whizz in a bit of water and milk with veg and meat and your friends will think you're a genius. I make potato gratin with a cheesy garlic white sauce, veggie lasagne and then mum and dad bought me a steamer - great for super quick and super healthy veg and fish.

Will? We've got proper fire now!

right i know that most of the stuff on your lists is semi quick, but how do u people have time to cook all the time? i dont seem to have time to scratch my behind. i've had to quit my job just to keep up, and thats with being cooked for or takeaway or not eating every night.

I never cook anything that takes longer than 20 mins but I guess this only works cos I could cook the stuff in my sleep, trying new ideas takes ages and usually involves a lot of mess,as I can't concentrate without one propper meal a day it is in the long run better for me. Around exam time last year me and my mates cooked for each other so we only had to take time out a few times a week.

I'll happily spend an hour cooking, or at least half-hour preparing and then wait for the oven to do it's magic. On the other hand, being home before 5 most days does help, even if the pay-off is being in Uni really quite early...
on the other hand, I can't function without plenty food - if there's not a hot meal in the day then things just start to go wrong

Well my mum is a nutritionalist so I can't really escape from good food at home, I don't think she's ever cooked a meal without veg or salad involved, even when we have chips there's propper veg added! Can't say I eat propperly all the time at uni tho

Okay so its my favourite food.
It rocks, it transcends time and is the ultimate king of foods. Variations are good (tuna and honey my theme of the month at the moment) but it all comes down to the original and best.
Try the tuna and honey. Add just a couple of spoons. Convert i tell thee...

there's loads of stuff you can make on the cheap and quite quickly...
chili, pasta, spaghetti, macaroni cheese (a variation on pasta and cheese?!), risotto...get some cheap pasta recipe books and there'll be tonnes of ideas that take about 10 mins to cook.
theres also things that are slightly differnet, mexican food (wraps with some chicken and salad), curry, soup....i'm stuck now but i swear there's more
its what comes of doing home ec/food tech as a gcse but at least i can cook i guess
oh and Jene, when i used to swim a lot (6 days a week ) i used to have smoothies and milkshakes and things like that. dried fruit, jelly, and quite a lot of sweets!! altho i'm sure that that wasnt really recommended. What club do you swim for??

I know. The thing is, it was the only thing I ate last term except from when my flatmate cooked dinner or I got pizza.
