BOF News Page
Have you noticed how the BOF NEWS page seems to fill up differently now - it used to be the top story ws the last one posted, but now I look and think "Oh British Schools - read that" and switch off and it's only later I notice that other stories have appeared under neath and I've missed something - I'm sure it didn't used to be like that - If anyone else finds it misleading then i'll drop Caroline an email and ask if it can b changed - any views?

Agreed - can be easy to miss stories posted in this order - am sure it's not the most arduous of things to change either.

Re: BOF News Page
This may well be because the British Schools report has been edited a couple of times today, once to locate the event correctly in Dorset, (and not in Devon which is what it said first,) and then again to add the full list of sponsors and to update the event report, now that Michael Napier has solved the problems caused by some competitors being inadvertently handed the wrong numbered SI card, during the hiatus when the gale blew the tent away at the South Start.
Perhaps if you edit a news item it is treated as a new report

Re: BOF News Page
I think Mrs H is pointing at the fact items posted on the same day appear in chronological order, but the most recent article appears below the ones posted before it, not above as previously. So yesterday, for example, the ShUOC story was posted late in the day but was easily missed as it didn't appear at the top of the news feed.

Re: BOF News Page
I did find it odd that on Monday there was a news item about the English VHI selection policy.
I would have expected to see a mention of England's victory the day before giving them a clean sweep of the HIs this year
(
)
Perhaps they think they need 52 weeks preparation to hold off Scotland's challenge next year.

Yes sorry Kedge the BSOC example was a bad one as I noticed it had been updates - it just seems that a day's news is posted from the top down instead of each successive story appearing at the top of the list - I'm sure it didn't used to be like that and it's easy to miss stories which appear late in the day further down the list as you tend to think - "Oh I've already seen that top story so nothing new has happened".
i just wondered if other people thought it was misleading before I raised it with Caroline.

This issue is known to BOF because I noticed this on 3 Oct and reported it on 9 Oct. I think it is accepted to be remedied when time/priorities allow. It is not too serious since news items you have not visited are I think shown in a different colour to those you have.

Re: BOF News Page
I can't see any difference in colour on my computer and 9th October is a long time ago - I think a logical and fully functional news page is extremely important to the membership and open chanels of communication is something that BOF have been working hard to achieve - so i must admt I would have thought it would have higher priority than a six week wait.

I'd second that. RSS also allows individual clubs to show BOF news on their club websites, giving it a much wider exposure.

Re: BOF News Page
It's not just the news items that are in a strange order. Looing at some of the committee minutes recently (http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/downloads/about.php#events) I noticed that the year gets earlier down the page, but within a year the month gets later down the page! Surely "most recent at the top" would be best here, too.

You see it's happened again. the British Schools seems to have been updated this morning (but I actually cannot see what has changed) and the YBT gold times have slipped in underneath - mind you BOF have never been any good at publicising those

Hoorah! Caroline has just phoned me to say she hopes to have the situation sorted within the week now that's what I call service
She's also going to look at the filing order of the minutes but says the jury's out on the RSS feed as BOF are not sure whether they would prefer to have people look directly at their website for news - but you RSS people will have to petition on that if you want it!
Oh Oldman - she says she doesn't remember hearing from you

I believe the latest change was an alteration to the photos and the addition of a photo/mention of Helen Bridle.
