As SYO member has pointed out this event was previously discussed in the "Silly Ideas" thread. If you want to know how it went check out the results and in particular the feedback blog, lots of very positive comments http://www.allabouttriathlons.co.uk/
Of the 150 competitors I only recognised 10 or so as regular orienteers, there was a rack of flyers including a BKO event and TVOC Wendover Woods, which hopefully some of them took.
The presence of Mr Emit and his helpers certainly ensured that everything ran smoothly.

Re: The Orientator
Not at all difficult, all controls on track junctions, as an 'experienced' orienteer the challenge was as with any score event deciding on the optimum route and then executing it as fast as possible, not taking a compass did result in one slight error.
The map only had major tracks and big features (the lake, sandpit, security fence etc), there was some limited oportunity for running through the terrain.
The Spanish Score format was more rewarding for the inexperienced as it meant everbody completed the whole course, a time limited score event would have been too "complicated".
