Loch Doon

Before I commit myself to a rare excursion to the Scottish Champs at Loch Doon (having missed the very early entry deadline for Caw :cry: )can anyone give some indication of what the area is actually like? The event details are not very specific so.....

Woodland?
Moorland?
Tussocks?
Heather?
Contour detail?
