Once upon a time the JK invloved two Long races and a relay.
these days it seems that for a number of 'competitors' it involves a short race and a relay.

I wish to point out that I did not and would not use the word 'jobbie' the word I used began with 'shi' and ended with 'te'
I hope you will agree that my original phrasing had far more resonance and onomatopaeic appeal than the auto-editted spew that replaced it.
perhaps I should run a poll ?

I agree kitch, if your going to do elite do the whole thing not just the short and the relay, show you are worthy of running under the elite category. I did it all (even though i did rubbish!)

bring on the 2 days.
i was so annoyed that i couldn't really run on day 2. The only reason was that i am just not fit enough for 90 minutes on graithwaite. wish i was out there.
it always makes you feel loads better in the relay knowing that you have done all 3 days, although, i was chuffed at 3rd place

yeah, i mean the jk used to be two hard physical races, and now people like gg only did 1 to ' concentrate on the relay'
pathetic. But our courses wer too short with about 80% of the entry better than the lowest end of the ewt (expected winning time)

there are a number of courses so that people have a choice of which to enter - it's the competitior's own carefully made decision of which races to run.
Ultimately orienteering is something to be enjoyed - it is easy to put the pressure on people and to criticise them, especially if you don't understand their circumstances, but what's the point in orienteering if you're not enjoying it?

This is an interesting one,
which is why I aske d the question.
I do think that for those with aspirations to World competitions specialisation is now part of the equation.
If you are going to WOC then you will not be doing every race.
If you want to excell then you will have to focus on one or two race formats - not all 4.
So if you see the JK as an opportunity to prepare for such international races than focussing and specialising may be an option.
On the other hand by skipping races you might be missing an opportunity to learn an important aspect of racing - digging deeper than you thought you could.
If you run a race with fresh legs, against someone who also raced the day before you may not have to push yourself as hard as they are doing.
When the race comes where either you both raced the day before or neither of you did then the person that knows how to dig deeper will come out on top - that will be the person that has done it more often.

i wasn't going to run day 2, since senior classic distance is a step to far fro me this year, and i enjoy it less than sprint and middle.
btu then reading the race info and the banter i realised that jk was going to be the event of the year and i'd be a fool to not be a part of that.
and i duly did it, took an age, hit the wall twice and walked the last three km. got a few injuries, (eyes and toes), watched some norwegians, and the uks #1 fly past and was inspired for the relay. dont think i got any ukcup points, a couple of wre ones perhaps but it was good.
im still not gonna try and win a woc classic for a few years but it was definately what o was about, a good long tough race.
and i dont think it affected my monday race much either, for me at least, i run relays on adrenalin and there were only a couple of points where i felt the pain in my legs from the day before.

I think if JK's going to be still a 2 day combined time race then people should run both days. Obviously you can't enforce that so if it's a trend to "opt out" of a classic race then maybe it should just be 2 individual races. On the other hand I didn't see anybody opting out of the middle/short (whatever you call it I don't get these complicated options on Long anyway) so maybe they are soft as .....
