I am contemplating racing in running glasses this year after having a contact lens plucked out in a World Cup classic race last year (I am -8 thingummyjigs, so this was quite debilitating - had already used spare lenses, and racing for over an hour in volcanic terrain with one eye shut is not easy). Also had to scrap several lenses last year as I tore them during races.
I've had some recommendations of Oakleys and Adidas, but I have the smallest head in the world, and wondered whether there is anyone else with an unfeasibly small head who would like to recommend a brand/model.
Cheers,
Pippa

I presumed you meant non-prescription glasses in addition to your contact lenses. I use a pair of Rudy Project Rydon glasses with clear lenses to protect my eyes, I have trouble getting glasses to fit and the Rydons have enough adjustments to work for me. I've had the experience of a contact lense being plucked out by a twig and while the running wasn't too difficult the driving home afterwards was a bit dodgy! I've also had a bad head injury when I was lucky to escape blinding, and that was what drove me to use the protectors more than the contact lens problem. Rudy Project may be worth looking at, they have a massive range and do at least sell women-specific versions.

I have a pair of rudy project rydons too which suit my small head. The website is all in italian but they have a huge range and lots of options of lenses. I use mine both for running and cycling and they work well for both.

1. Run faster!
2. Squeeze the nose pads together to hold the glasses off your face. If you can stop sweat running off your eyebrows onto the lenses this is half the battle, and having the lenses standing off from your eyebrows will also allow air flow behind the lenses. I noticed a massive reduction in misting when I changed from some cheap eye protectors sold by one of the O-traders to the expensive Rudys.
Still don't wear them in the rain though.

This website is much less Italian than the other one http://www.rudyprojectuk.com/
I noticed they make a big thing about such glasses for golfers. Is that for when you are a bit rubbish and you hook your ball off into the bushes and have to go and find it without getting your eyes scratched in the gorse?

The lenses have small holes at the top of them allowing air to flow, stopping them mist up. Also don't stop!

Golf lenses tend to show up contour details better - so you can play the greens better.
Some hunting lenses are also designed to enhance oranges more, which is handy for spotting flags.
A general orange lens will do both of these, as well as making the forest appear slightly lighter.

thanks boys. yes indeed, I meant non-prescription glasses to wear in addition to my lenses. Two things: The website is most unhelpful regarding how to get hold of the glasses, can you recommend shops/chains/websites that will sell me some. Secondly, I was advised to try to get glasses with a vent along the top to stop misting - do the Rudy ones have this? I'm guessing not following the misting discussion...

Large specialist cycling shops are probably best. I got mine from Phil Corley Cycles in Milton Keynes, they are big enough to stock a wide range of frames, and big enough to order clear lenses for me without having to wait ages to generate a viable minimum order value.

The Rydons are designed so there is a gap between the lenses and the frame close to the bridge of the nose. It does help with ventilation.
Unfortunately there is no such thing as glasses that don't mist up, it's just a question of degree. Depends on atmospheric conditions too. I can keep my Rydons on throughout my course and I count this as a success. They might get a bit misty if I stop running e.g. walking up a steep bank, but they soon clear.

I was looking at Rudy project too but what I really need is a flip up prescription lens. I can now see close up without a lens but need to flip a lens down for distance. I solved the problem on a temporary basis with my R lens fixed and my L lens taped to the frames at the top (duct tape). Flipped up to read the map, flipped down to help match vision with the R. Rudy can have prescription inserts and flip up outers but I essentially want the opposite. Any ideas?
