Is it just me that thinks nopesport has turned really jobby.
It seems like the site has been totally hijacked by the anorak orienteers. The discussion forum is full of crap about guidelines, course lengths being 50m too long, waterproof maps getting wet, OE2003 - whatever that is, font used for overprinting control numbers........
Can we save nopesport?
Can we ban the anoraks?

If that's the case (and I don't see any 'hijacking' given that anybody can contribute), it's only because non-anoraks aren't contributing. So what about it Didsco? Rather than whinging like an anorak, get the threads going that you want to see: your last contribution was almost two months ago.

Didsco, the reason for your displeasure I think, is that all contentious 'political' topics (e.g BOF membership, event fees, courses etc.) have already been discussed ad infinitum or ad nauseam, depending on one's viewpoint.
Like you, I have not posted for a while because, apart from the anorak topics, I feel there is often, but not always, nothing really new to contribute to the old chestnuts that regularly come up.
You can't deny that maps are the basis of our sport, so why shouldn't people discuss the merits of various aspects of OCAD? Ditto e-punching, and Nopesport is the only place where you can get a nationwide perspective.
By all means move technical stuff out of the Discussion forum into a new one but what are we left with? People moaning about their own event specific misfortunes? Or publicising their club's forthcoming event which although frowned on here, is something I don't disagree with, as long as its got some new angle that would make you want to go. I also like to hear about what's gone on at events I haven't been to, but preferably the positive things that we can all learn from, not the whinging. That just annoys the event officials.
Maybe Nopesport is becoming like orienteering itself and we just aren't getting enough new members!

publicising their club's forthcoming event
People/clubs are free to publicise their events in the 'events news' section on the front page by sending info to news@nopesport.com.

Wattok and everyone else involved with nopesport >
My post was meant in no way a criticism of nopesport. You guys have put in a massive amount of work into creating a great site, which is a major reason why it's so sad that its being take over by 'anoraks'.
Put the anoraks in their own section a long way down the list so the general orienteering and non-orienteering people don't have to read all the crap they come out with.
Orienteering is a competitive sport for everyone, not just for 'geeks', lets do our best not to put people off.

OK, that's two posts now - would you care to enlighten us with what's anoraky and what's not? Seems you're having a little rant but not letting us know what you think we should be discussing. Give us some direction - you obviously think we need it.

As for 'hijacking' nopesport - you're having a laugh - surely this nonsense should be in the Banter section?

I don't like to think of myself as an anorak (being female and under 30) but I quite like reading the 'geeky' threads even if I don't necessarily contribute to them. I don't have the time to think deeply in to rules and regulations, nor to be honest do I really have the inclination, but I appreciate that somebody has to and I like to see how debates that may result in rule/reg changes that may affect me have been formed.
As PeteL says - what do you think people should be discussing?

On the basis that he contributes to most of these threads you're complaining about, is Gross an anorak or a troll?
ISTM that unless you can come up with some ideas about what we should be discussing that you're actually complaining about a lack of banter

The last few posts are in the same vein as I was thinking. What makes one an anorack? I certainly don't quote rules etc , but on the other hand I try not to break them if I know them. Hence I'd like to know how to interpret OOB on a map? If the hashing doesn't reach the fence or wall leaving a strip of open do you take that to be a corridor that you can use? I know we've had discussions on this before but I did not have my computer with me on Sat night. I erred on side of caution(perhaps that means I'm an Anorack)
Do you want an elite only forum and if so who is eligible and what should be discussed?
By the way I'm not elite or grumpy old man and I don't think I'm an anorack.

Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Ha ha ha - this is what we want - Didsco upsets the whole of Little Orienteering Britain with unkind generalisations and politcally incorrect worditure
The offended masses strike back calling him to put his money where his mouth is
Come on Didsco - come out of your corner all guns blazing - let's have some real fire works to brighten up the day, the sport and life in general
Oh BTW AR - does "Troll" have any specific meaning in this context?

From Wikipedia :
a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, often in the form of posting messages that are inflammatory, insulting, incorrect, inaccurate, absurd, or off-topic, with the intent of provoking a reaction from others.
