Old Maps
Here is an interesting web site for mappers. http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ - you can search for and display reasonably large and clear 1:10560 maps from the late-Victorian era. If, like EA, you have lots of more recent pine plantations it gives some useful hints about were to search for possible old field boundaries (eg ditches / earthwalls). Helped me locate a large "parish boundary mound" (knoll S side ??) and identify that a large pit was actually a sheep fold on the sheep walks rather than a crag or gravel pit.
