A friend of mine has applied for a postdoc thingy at Bristol University & wants some info on the area & possibilities for orienteering.
She was a good orienteer & ran for Lithuania but has been based in Germany for the past 3 years or so & not really done anything.

As you mention there is BOK http://bristolorienteering.org.uk.
Next events are a night event on saturday and a informal/fun/Xmas event on sunday. There is a few map in or very close to Bristol (some with permanent courses). Else BOK maps are in Forest of Dean or on the Mendips.
There is possibility to Orienteer at least every other week if not every week with the events from BOK and neighbour club: NGOC, QO, NWO and SARUM.
As far as i know there is no Orienteering club at Bristol Uni or UWE.

Used to cost 12.5p each way when I lived down that way. Mind there was only the one bridge then. Lots of crossings to see family and also enjoy the brambles of Trellech, Tintern and Chepstow Park Wood.
I suppose you have to go via Gloucester to get to Dean now.. As you say, free coming back.

Unfortunately petrol is more than it once was as well. Not really worth it I don't think.
