i'm surprised no one has mentioned this already (or maybe they have?) but doesn't April look like a great month for British Junior Orienteering... in some respects anyway.
April 7/8th - JK
April 14/15th - British Sprint/Middle
April 21/22nd - FCC Finals
Now, seeing as the first 2 weekends are selection races for the latter, and they are also supposedly the premier competitions in the country, I can't imagine many juniors managing to peak for those and sustaining this for the FCC final too.
In which case I'd be interested to hear from juniors planning their season (and anyone else for that matter) how they're planning on prioritising these races.
Also, are the FCC finals acting as selection races for JWOC as per usual?

and then peaking again nearly 3 months later for JWOC?!?
excluding the british... why could they not have had it the weekend after british so its two blocks of racing rather than one... and not quite so long till JWOC?

having it on the British would mean clashing with the relays, as FCC final involves two indivdual races, and the British has one indvidual and one relay

I dont think that is so much of a problem, 3 months is a long time. A weeks downtime following the FCC final, then time for nearly 2 months hard training before having to start tapering for JWOC. In fact its a lot harder to maintain a peak for a long time as you would maybe have to try and do if the FCC final was much later, than to have 2 peaks a decent distance apart.
I assume that the issue is the cost for Australia and that bringing the FCC final forward and therefore picking the team earlier will help to reduce costs.
Remember there are 8 races with only 4 counting in the FCC schedule for a reason - you dont have to go to them all, just make sure you qualify and then it should be possible to taper quite effectively.

If Nopesport Training Guru answered the question I posed in response to his excellent training article, then we might all know the answer

Maybe...

Didn't seem to bother them much last year.

Most of you don't seem to have noticed yet that you don't have to qualify to run at the FCC final races -so no need to chase up and down the country spending your parents hard-earned dosh.
Do the races that mean something for you and train hard over the weekends where others are slogging hundreds of miles up and down motorways and missing quality saturday training sessions.
It's not a problem peaking twice in a year - eg GB domestic season and then 2+ months later for JWOC.
It IS a problem if you peak for the first FCC races and try to maintain this peak through to the FCC Final.
Plan your races sensibly. And, ultimately if you want to perform at JWOC (not just get there) make sure you train hard through most of the domestic season and only focus on key races such as JK and FCC Final.

As jase said you can run in the fcc final races without having qualified for the fcc final.this means you have no chance of being crowned fcc champion but you still have a chance of being selected for jwoc if you finish in the top 2/3.
also since it is only 3 races to count to qualify you can focus on jk and one other smaller event and with good results that should get you there.
so you really only have three weekends of racing to really focus on and then plenty of time to recover and start training to peak again for jwoc.
thats how i see it anyway, no doubt other people have different aims and ideas.
