Now I don't know what the plan is for the BOF AGM as regards the Nopesport crew attending, as I am not going to be there; its a good idea, but I am concerned that it be done in the right way so that it can be seen as a positive thing by all sides concerned.
As much as we lament some aspects of BOF decision making etc. the fact is that these people are surely more our friends than our enemies - they help organise races, they deal with the sports council, and for everything that they do 'wrong' (in our eyes) I reckon they are probably doing something right.
If as a group the AGM attendance is an aggressive move I think it could be a big mistake; I am not making any accusations here, just raising a point. There are a lot of people high up in BOF who have been involved for many years, who have put in a lot of work and who rightly or wrongly are probably proud of what they have achieved. To barge into 'their' AGM in a militant fashion demanding this and that could alienate us more from BOF. On the other hand if we attend the meeting being well read on this years and last years issues, raising valid points and joining in debate/discussion in a constructive way then I am sure that BOF will welcome the growth in young peoples interest. God knows the Federation needs it.
I talked with Peter Christopher (former chair of the BSOA, and Headteacher at King Edwards Aston School) today; he is stoked that some younger faces are keen to go to the AGM but voiced similar concerns. He suggested that if you are planning on going to the AGM then you read up on last years minutes and also the notes taken from the strategic meetings that were held in conjunction with last years AGM. He e-mailed Robin Field to ask if these could be made available on the BOF website. I'm yet to check if this has happened. He also suggested that maybe some of you could talk to some senior people who may also be attending and would be supportive - Pauline Olivant and Andrew Kelly are two names that spring to mind for me.
These are just some thoughts; don't take any of it the wrong way as I am just trying to be constructive. I think its great that you guys/gals are going to attend the AGM and I am keen to see it turn out as a positive. It would be good to see some more comments here, I think as we lead up to the AGM its worth reigniting the conversation from a few weeks ago to finalise the key goals of the Nopesport group who are planning to attend.
cheers

Nopesport at the AGM - strategies?
Moderators: [nope] cartel, team nopesport
very good point ben
if anyone wants to change bof you have to do it constructively and try and work within the existing structure. i shall be there and along with hopefully with the rest of the nopesport team.
and remember if we didn't have BOF and the work they do then we would be like Ed Nicholas (GBR Gonads) a long way away from number 1 at the spring cup relay with the pack 5 minutes away and increasing
thats totally shafted btw

Very well made point Ben, definitely in agreement. I'm currently planning to go to the AGM, mostly out of interest to see what actually happens at BOF, I'm sure it's not as bad as one might decide from reading nopesport!

I went to a BOF agm once a long time ago and it was a killer. Maybe things have changed as BOF has got more professional but at least half the meeting was spent discussing how the meeting ought to be run - a half hour debate on whether a point of order counted as a point of order or should be raised later as AOB, or something like that.
There was some business done, and some interesting discussions, but the majority of attendees preferred to stick with their preconceptions rather than be persuaded by anything coming from the floor.
LIke I say, maybe things have improved these days, but if you really want to make a difference with BOF it might be better to get involved with the various committees and working groups rather than having a one-off blitz at the agm and then sitting back for another year. Even if you do get some changes pushed through at the agm it needs somebody working within BOF to implement them.

Yes, they appeared yesterday - apparently they got lost in the move from old to new websites. The Documents page can be found via the Site Map, and direct links are:

I agree with Ben's comments as well - it not worth turning up to BOF AGM just to have a moan at a set of volunteers, it is important to be constructive and use the existing processes rather than disrupt them.
Reading the (lengthy!) dialogue on BJOC 2005 then given the clear feeling that consultation/communication on this has not been great, surely the best thing to do to help the volunteers involved in the decision making is be proactive in making sure views get to your regional rep on BOF Council (and also to accept that you won't always get the outcome you prefer!)
In particular for the ongoing BJOC saga then I suggest that if you intend going along and speaking up on this at the AGM, in advance of the meeting it would be reasonable to
- know who your regional rep is on BOF Council (i.e. the person who represents you in the decision making process), and ideally have spoken to them if you have strong views
- make sure your club is doing its bit by collating views from members on the issue of a separate BJOC, both for 2005 specifically and more generically for future years.
- make sure that your club is passing your regional rep the views from your club, ideally before the BOF AGM and certainly before the BOF Council in May which is due to ratify (or otherwise) the current position for 2005.
And if anyone can track down a list of regional reps then maybe it would be worth them posting it to this thread?

Only problem with this is that if you are Scottish it is very rare for anyone from the SOA to attend a BOF Council meeting:)

Having done a bit of trawling, I think the following is reasonably up to date. This is something that I think should be on the BOF website pronto. Founding out who represents me on various committees is not easy, and it should be. The association rep is usually the regional committee chairman, with one or two exceptions.
SE - Simon Greenwood (SAX)
SW - Roger Hargreaves (KERNO)
EA - Lyn West (SOS)
EM - John Woodall (NOC)
WM - Russ Fauset (HOC)
NE - Patrick Smyth (BAOC)
YH - Jo Thornley (AIRE)
NW - Stephen Richards (SELOC)
Wales - Phil Jenkins (SBOC)
I can't make the SOA website links work, to find out the SOA rep, but as Gross says, attendance is minimal. In recent years it's usually been more effective to work through a BOF councillor.
SCOA have most of their committee posts vacant, so probably best working through Katy Stubbs (BKO) who is a BOF councillor.
No info available on NIOA site.
I haven't put contact details on: there's all sorts of issues with Data Protection, privacy etc. (I know, I know...), but if you work through the following link, you'll be able to dig out the relevant association website which usually has a contact for the individual. Nothing on the new website yet . Alternatively, contact BOF office and I'm sure they will give you details

Hope that helps.

Thanks Mark but I see the January council meeting minutes arn't up there - These really should be available by now and before the AGM - Mr H. has e-mailed asking for them to be posted - perhaps if a few more people ask they might appear in time for us to read them If we are to be well informed we need the latest information.

but the highlights of the child protection competition were truly laughable, and from where i was at the back, a certain ms carlyle was having difficulty containing her disbelief regarding the printing of pictures of juniors in club magazines and naming them in a mannor which means they cant be identified! and i have to say, i saw her point, if you follow that argument to its natural conclution, you shouldnt be able to name juniors on the run in!
