I'm writing a piece about nopesport for the next edition of Points East, the EAOA newsletter. Apart from just raising awareness, I want it to sound good to get people to come and have a look, so I'm after some brief quotes from you, the users, on why you find it so useful/interesting/addictive.
Many thanks, Mark.

it allows me to keep in touch with the UK orienteering scene from the other side of the world. and take the piss out of people like craney and middleditch.
om a more serious note its providerd orienteers with a base for structured debates about important aspects of the sport, from competition right the way through to administration.

although many folk come here for some banter there has been some really good discussions on many important issues facing british orienteering over the past few months. it was instrumental in getting a scoring system for busa arranged which made it a much more exciting competition this year.

it cheers me up when i'm at work, some of the strings are very very funny(intentionally or not), and all the nastyness is really quite gentlemanly on the whole.
and it based in the mighty Burgh, so it's got to be good

A chance for a serious post, after lots of banter.
As Mrs H. says, [nope] allows us all to contribute views, both serious and not so serious, on an equal footing; and, yes, a great web-site (it's now above BOF on my orienteering sub-menu).
The chance to exchange ideas is so important - orienteering can be a pretty solitary sport once you leave the womb of a university club / junior squad. This isolation is one of the reasons those taking up the sport cite for rapid disenchantment; how do you get to know the members of the club you just joined when they head straight back to their cars to get out of the bitter wind/rain/snow? Give every new orienteer the address of [nope] in their welcome pack and they can start to make contact - maybe a forum particularly for new orienteers, that contains less of the bemusing stuff we take for granted, but free from BOF marketing hyperbole.

what makes [nope] good is that it provides an overview of what's going on in british 'o', not just what bof want to report (which seems to be not much), and with the forums you get exactly that from lots of different viewpoints, plus the chance to discuss events you've just done, about to do or whatever - kind of like a giant online assembly field.
I have to say I'd been thinking of setting up a site something along these lines in the middle of last year, but never got around to it - and there's not really much point now! seriously though, I think one of the reasons [nope] has worked so well is that it had the hardcore support from the 'burgh crowd to get it up and running and supported early on, and then everyone else is gradually coming aboard.
Oh and the reason everyone can express opinions on an equal footing is because no-one's actually sure who anyone else is
