Well, as i sit here and type, i'm sweating like a pig!!!
it is very hot and still out here, which will make for some uncomfortable riding i'm sure!!
the team are all out here, ready and raring to go, model event today and then long qualifier tomorrow.
everyone is happy with their bikes (mine arrived 2 days late though!!) and we have all been out in the forests getting used to the terrain.
keep an aye out to see how we fare.

3 GB men through to the A final - Andy Conn, Mark Hayman and James Taylor. John Houlihan through for Ireland as well. Looks like all the women are through but I'm not sure as they only had 2 heats. Good luck in the finals!

Results changed massively overnight as 13 men were disqualified for going through an out of bounds area - although there was someone there with a sign indicating that it was out of bounds and it was also on the map. Mixed news for the British team as Andy Conn and Liam Corner were disqualified but Bruce subsequently qualified.

No excuses, but looking at that, I'd describe it as badly planned, given that the obvious routes from 4 to 5 go straight through out of bounds, and there isn't a straightforward route avoiding it (noting that in MTBO decision making like this is very difficult when you're racing - as shown by the amount of mistakes by most of the top guys in the British MTBO long).

What obvious route ?
Oh, the obvious route on the main forest roads that stop dead in the middle of a sand quarry with huge great earth banks to climb up if you want to get out.
That would tempt people for about ....
If people made mistakes its because there are some very tricky sections interspersed with what look to be very simple legs. If that caught people out then I'd say its good planning. It is the World Champs afterall so you'd expect there to be a call for difficult decisions and thorough concentration

Yeah, don't think any route that goes into to the out of bounds would be classed as obvious. The only route I can see is boot down the main track past 7, then head for the dashed track parallel to the semi-open, boot along there until the clearing after the singletrack, then in from there.
Where did the boys get disqualified? Was it between 4 and 5? There is a route that goes just into the out of bounds for a few metres, but you'd be crazy to chance it....

I know nothing about mtbo (I last rode a bike some time in the eighties). Why do some tracks have an overprinted bar across them? There is one adjacent to number 4, on what would appear to be the most sensible route into it.

You're all discussing the wrong leg!
The boys were disqualified in the long qual for going along the road through the houses 12-13.
Middle today was an orienteers' treat...full on tricky orienteering and lots of fun.
Thanks for watching!
