The following has just been posted on the BOF Website:
IOF have now given approval for the UKCup Middle Race at Rowney Warren on Sunday May 21st to be a World Ranking Event.
This is the day after the British Sprint Championship at Milton Keynes. Entry Closing Date for the event by post or internet is May 7th although late entries by internet will be accepted up until May 14th.
This WRE at Rowney Warren replaces the postponed South Ribble National Event which has now been re-scheduled for Spring 2007. The status of that event as a WRE will be determined by the Elite Competitions Group when it meets in June to plan next year's
programme.
ECG would like to thank WAOC for making necessary changes to what would already have been a high quality event in order to meet the IOF requirements for a WRE.
This is good news for British Athletes as it gives an opportunity to gain points at an event many would have entered anyway. All those running the open courses will be eligible to score World Ranking points. I think you have to be within double the winners time to get points - but not certain about that.

Back in the mid 70s, I was one of a group of school kids who first mapped Rowney Warren. Little did I think that 30 years on, it would get the recognition it deserves (Rowney Warren, not our map).
Will be there to see it in its glory.

Why?
I could understand why "WRE" and "East Anglia" might make you giggle, but I would say that Rowney Warren is the exception and certainly one of the rare technically challenging EA areas. If the organisers can manage to get access to the bit, which is often taken up by bikes these days, it will be even better (and being a WRE/UK Cup, they might have a slightly stronger lever with the Forestry).

Indeed Becks that's exactly what I was saying. It's a shock (but clearly an honour
) - in all those many EA junior squad sessions running round it you can't say you'd have ever dreamed it would play host to a WRE one day?!

And probably not what someone with a lisp would want in the same sentence either

The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

Brown faced ian.
I'm hoping that mr Peel has done a grand job on the old map -there was some dodgy bits that'll get ripped apart.
And everyone look out for the big dirty brown congealed puddle that was inside mr catmur once upon a time.
