For the next WCH regional event (March), is it worth the effort to provide a wireless connection to live results and splits pages similar to that at the World Cup available in the assembly area / car park…….. (there will be the normal pasted results plus the multi monitor live setup anyway)
If it is would it be mainly for PDA or Notebook ?

Sorry to say parking options will not allow the finish to be in the car park. But start and finish are together and only a a few hundred metres from the car park.
If you take your PDA with you and leave it at the start you could get the results on the walk back.

I think it would depend on the scale of the event. At something like the JK and British it would be a welcome addition, but with the large number of competitors it would require either a large number of screens, or it would take a long time to show each class on a limited number of screens.
At smaller events it would be a nice, but not essential.

The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

How many people take a PDA or notebook to an O event? I'd guess very few, I suspect most don't have either and many don't even know what they are. The updated screens are good, obviously they have restrictions ie. size, speed and light but are good, but I think the rest would be overkill.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Of course it is worth it! Perhaps not something that is going to take on fast, or be all that easy for many clubs to provide. But in the future I can see the club tent having a notebook with the live results being displayed. Yes, a very valuable resource!
It will take a few tries to get the system fool proof etc and to get others interested, but it has the potential to be a worthwhile "future".

Most chasers district events have a screen at the end of download with live results on.
We will have our multimonitor set up for sure ( 6 - 10 monitors alternating classes,
Its just the wireless bit Im am interested in whether it is worth providing. Its probably not worth it just for 3 or 4 people.....

perhaps in 20 years time we will have every electronic punch remotely communicating to a central system.
Once you have finished you plug into this system and each time one of your competitors punches at one of the controls on your course you would get an instantaneous update.
By then it will obviously be possible to be wet-wired into the whole thing, so if the person does a leg faster than you then you will experience a kick in the arse, if they are ahead of you overall then you experience a kick in the chugs (or female equivalent) - clearly if you are ahead the experience will be entirely more pleasurable.

If you could run forever ......

And surely a "stimulus" to stay ahead. Why wait 20 yeas though! John Morris...... get it on the agenda right away please.... spend whatever is needed.... we will be able to advertise on the adult sites rather than the other way round!

Not directly comparable - they're racing past fixed points which have a power-supply - but, just come across this about this year's Vasaloppet race.

check out:

for a company selling E-Paper. So instead of pasting bits of tree to wooden boards, you could hand out one of these pages to each vehicle at your event, and have the "page" update with the results.
not sure how big they make them e.g. have one 50ft x 50ft in the assembly area.
may seem expensive - but they are reuseable - e.g. you could get one with your membership pack, and it updates automatically with the most recent o results in your area - whether you are there or not.
Gadgets for every occasion.
