Music at events
I didn't register any yesterday at YBT. So I would consider it to not have been intrusive. I've been to some events where it is loud and interfered with commentary etc. I like it at mass starts on relays when the competitors leave the field. However I can see that other users of forest may take offence. Obviously not everyone can be pleased and some music gives razzmatazz to an event. What do others feel? Is it volume,is it quantity, or is it choice of music that people like/dislike.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

I'm against it, but then my view is coloured by an experience at the European Trail-O Champs in the spa town of Truskavets in the Ukraine in 2000.
The PA system had been playing old Abba hits to amuse the crowd at the finish. Yes there was a crowd at the finish: patients at the local sanatoriums (sanatoria?) who had to do something to kill the time between taking the curative spa waters in the park where Trail-O finished, and sprinting desperately to the loo as the waters took effect.
Anyway, having had a quick rest on a park bench out of sight of the crowd to rest my arthritic knee, I hobbled down the finish funnel on my stick to warm applause and heard my name announced over the tannoy: wonderful, I thought: fame at last.
At which point, the PA system played a quick burst of 'Dancing Queen' !
As I say, I'm agin' it

Actually I thought the music provided by the Ukrainians at the WC in Truskavets was brilliant. One of the races finished in the main town 'square' and the locals were well entertained by the music & commentry & it easily added to the atmosphere.
Music is played at many events throughout Europe & people enjoy it... it easily adds to the flavour of the competition

As a total aside.... best part of the music at Truskavets was the high pithed scream of the siren of the local police acting as our escort to get out of the time & up to the border. Cost us best part of $100 to get 4 teams & 2 buses out... bit strange going with Chief of Police to put money into his bank account....

...would that be the same police chief who arranged for his men to guard the the control sites in the park? Each cluster of Trail-O flags had a bored policeman with brolly, sandwiches and gun, protecting the event from the local kids....
