Im making some changes and additions to the training diaries. One of the alterations is a more comprehensive list of training types... can someone who feels inclined please suggest more types of training to add.

Hopefully this is helpful criticism. I would go back to use training diaries if:
1) I could have weekly and monthly totals of distance and time per type. I got a bit lost without this and did too much biking and not enough running.
2) I could distinguish between biking, canoeing and general "other". I expect alot of nope would do biking but canoeing is a bit random. I expect more than just me has some peculiarity they would like to total. So any chance of ad-hoc types per user?
3) Obviously edit and delete - guess these are on your list though.

ally's probably sleeping right now, so i'll reply on his behalf:
weekly and monthly totals with nice pretty graphs are definitely on ally's plans.
deleting entries is now available as well: if you log into your training diary then view it you should see a delete option next to each entry. you can use this to edit entries as well, since you can just delete an entry then re enter it (remember to change the date).
right now though, we are looking to increase the types of session available, so things like cycling, canoeing etc etc are what we're looking for.
eg i find there is no place for road running. now i wish i was surrounded by endless forest with sunlit trails so i'd never have to run on roads, but alas this isn't the case. so i'd like "Road Run - Hard" "Road Run - Moderate" "Road Run - Recovery" perhaps.
any other ideas?

Is he really in Whistler? No fair if he is.
Seeing as I haven't looked at the diaries for a while some of this may be in, but types I would like are (speaking for me and me alone):
Road bike
MTB
Swim
Canoe
Maybe a low effort way of dealing with random things like canoeing is to have "Other 1", "Other 2", "Other 3" - then I could always use Other 1 for canoeing.
Edit would still be nice though as much less effort for something like changing a type.
I appreciate the efforts though!

some sort of steady run option would be good, as long and threshold don't seem to cover that sort of thing. and yeah, a non-terrain option would be good too.

definitely need to include some form of steady/threshold non-terrain running. also there are a few options which can be doubled up. hill session/physical - hill reps are the same (correct me if i'm wrong), as are intervals/physical - intervals. swimming and cycling are pretty popular cross-training activities, but perhaps to accommodate different peoples different activities, having cross-training would suffice for the less obvious ones (personally i play football every week).
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

yes he is really in whistler. i will be soon
won't be canoeing brrr.. but would need;
xc-ski
alpine ski
long resistance run (ie in snow)
snowshoeing
building snowmen
rolling in snow
treadmill threshold run/intervals
upper body workout (ie throwing snowballs)
noone jealous no?
but seriously.. call me old fashioned but i really like writing my training in a book. i hope rob bloor doesn't sue me but i have a load of photocopies of pages of his old training diary (THE TRAINING DIARY) -you can't buy it anymore i don't think. and i stick them in a book. his training diary was the bomb btw and you could colour the angdrogenous person on the front in your club colours.
i love colouring in a big phat bar on the graph at the end of the week. only if i had a heart rate monitor and could look at impressive graphs would i join the techy crowd and have an electronic training diary, polar provide one don't they? but i do use an excel spreadsheet to plan training/season.
why put training online? i wouldn't want to scare anyone by how many hours i am doing at the moment
but it is useful for remote coaches eg. to check how many miles Rockaldo is rocking out

I know I'm different but a monthly total of "cross-training" won't help me. If you want to make it running specific (which is a reasonable goal I accept) that's fine but personally I need to know the split between biking, canoeing and other cross training.
Why put it online? Because with a few new features Pyrat's baby will be better than excel. Why use electronic? Totals stuff for you and I'm lazy.
And yes I am jealous. La Tania in 3 weeks though

Thanks for all the suggestions and chat about training types and reporting. Reporting is definitely high on the list and I will be generating the same graphs you colour in harry!
Yeah whistler is fun, they opened it properly today so got some pretty nice powder descents. Its puking up there at the moment now so I'll be up bright and early tomorrow for more of the same.
Also, terrain parks with biiig jump and grinds.
Anyways, also hoping to write a per user rss feed and a blog style setup from recent entries so you can see what everyone is doing. There will be a private option if you do not wish to share this info.
Cheers,
A

How about an e-mail reminder service -
"you haven't trained or done any exercise for X hours/days/months" with a random abusive message to uncourage you to get out there.

i didn't realise you could still get THE TRAINING DIARY. i will purchase one then - feel bad now. my coach gave me the photocopies though so i am only an accomplice.
