ankle tape in wet conditions
Hi just wondered if somebody could help me... i injured my ankle at Lagganlia and have been strapping it for events recently as it's still a bit dodgey and i've been using Leukotape classic. It's worked well until I used it at the Lingmoor event the other week and it was very wet. It basically didn't work and had come unstuck after 10minutes which isn't very handy on a JW5S course! So I came back with very sore ankles! Anyway, just wondering if anybody could give me any advice on how to strap ankles in typical lakeland weather....
The good thing about these dark nights is you can't see how horrible it is outside.

The best thing I found was to do the taping at home in the warm and dry before you leave if possible.
anyway wherever you do it
wash the area to be taped using lots of soap first. let it dry then put the tape on... It should then stick really well
And buy a wobble board....

It also helps to tape the ankle properly. Most orienteers I've seen do it incorrectly. Ask a qualified physio to show you how - then it's less likely to come off and will also protect the ankle better. Echo Stodge - if you've just washed and dried the ankle the tape will stick better. Also you must work on ankle strength when not orienteering to get back. Too many orienteers have no ankle left - not because they've damaged them but because they've relied on tape for many years. There's a balance to be struck between protecting the old injury and getting the strength back for your body to work as intended.

I've recently been using some brown leukotape that I got through BOF office. I've found it to be really good at staying on - even survived being submerged for 90 mins at the Nov Classic on Sunday! Unfortunately I'm not sure what it's called as I just got it through the squad - can anyone shed some light, and on where you can get it?
Another trick, as Nails said, is to put long socks on over the tape when you've put it on. Holds the tape in place nicely. Put the tape on a good hour before you run so it's well stuck before you start putting it through its paces.
Good luck

also don't bother shaving your legs if you're a bloke. i used to.
1. it looks gay
2. if you leave the hair on your legs then the tape tugs at them, which is slightly painful (you'll get used to it) but the pain warns you of an impending twist, giving you that vital millisecond to readjust and avoid a sprain.

... or off you skin after you run. It might be worth using the underlay (foam like tape) if you are going to be taping a lot, it will save your skin withough sacrificing the stability of the strapping. The sell it at CompassPoint & Ultrasport

I got some spray-on 'glue' from my physio - worked really well but as other people have said: its better to work on getting your ankle stronger than relying on tape....

Years ago you used to be able to get zinc oxide tape. That was amazing stuff... never came off
Can you still get it or is that what the white lucotape is..
