Anyone go? I'm curious about what it was like as looking through the results there are a large number of anomalies (i.e. results not as expected in accordance with WM Galloppen form.) I don't think it's an area with a lot of bracken that would track up so was there a large amount of track running?

Craney won the Brown and he's not even ranked in the WM Gallopen, what a shock that is.
Ha ha
My comments were purely out of interest as it seemed there were a lot of juniors higher up than some very experienced senior WM orienteers. It may be the heather, perhaps the older legs found it tougher. Looking at the maps you cannot tell what it is like on the ground.

mostly the rough open was about knee high heather, but some of it was more like grassy stuff with obviously no map distinction between the two
the courses (or at least the blue) was very physical; there were some great route choice legs

some of the anomolies may be from the route choices on the legs, and the multiple routes, i believe that emily garide did some of the planning so ask her

Yeah, credit to her 1st time if yee enjoyed it. Looking at the Green though it seemed a bit long and physical, but the gaffleing on the first controls was an nice idea.Anonymous wrote:The courses are up on the results page if you want to see how much track running there was. Heather rather than bracken.
I though there was loads of route choice and the planning was good on an area like that. Well done to the planner!

Thank you! Seemed to be lots of postive comments, so all is good. Huge thanks to everyone that helped! The courses were slightly longer consequence of last years finishing time. The area is pretty fast, Craney demonstrating with 43 mins on the 8km brown!!! But the physical side - yes there are alot of hills in the area which are very hard to avoid (the side of a valley!) and give some contour work for controls, plus we couldn't have you coming back not feeling like you'd got your moneys worth So again thankyou to all the comments that have come out of it, it's been awesome!
when i saw you out there, you were dying.
when you got back, you were the living dead.

I know this thread effectively finished a few days ago but I would like to add my thanks to Emily for an excellent Green course.
The route choice options were really good with control sites well located (not bingo and not visible from afar). However, it was often physically hard once you left the path. Sometimes the path route proved to be better some times it didn't. Also it was not necessarily quicker to contour. I had a really good run using a mixture of path and going straight (didn't get it totally right) and yes I was beaten by an M14 - but that happens quite often.
