Phase one success
Phase One of MADO HOC's area specific recruitment took place today. 83 runs most of these new to the sport and a large number were family groups. Mrs.H's vision has been a great success so far. Targetted advertising plus many hours hard work and the only let down was the weather (a bit grey). Next weeks event will give an idea how many felt it worth another go.

Thanks Hocolite - counting up we had nearly 200 people come from an extremely small target area (Malvern and district) - mostly tackling courses in 2s and 3s some doing more than one course. The weather was grey and quite cold - but as Angry Grouse said - if they don't mind coming out today - they are probably the sort to enjoy orienteering!
Interestingly - over 30 helpers - most of whom acting as 'buddies' on a one to one basis seemed to work very well. We'll try and get some pictures on the website tonight!
thought the post-event picnic was very nice even tho' teeth were chattering.
Right - better start sorting out next week's now

Or perhaps it was my birthday champagne I've just opened - but anyway - in a couple of months' time you might decide being angry is better than being ancient - eh!
anyway - thanks to you all for all your help today - err - fancy doing it all agan next week?

Onward we march. After event 3 there are still a large number of new participants and people coming to enquire. Also a number of returnees. They are beginning to get the 'O Habit' A score this time, it was surprising how many stayed out for the 60 minutes to try to get a large number. One 4 year old who has come with his Dad twice brought the grandparents today, they enjoyed their first O experience and now know why their grandson couldn't miss it!
The coaching of the guides this week led to two coming back for more with a parent (that's before their official intercompany challenge). Quote 'We wanted to try the beeper and to run, we like running'

Just to report we had a record number of people at MADO 4 even without the girl guides who used it for their district challenge - 240 making 140 runs. this brings the total number of attendances to 700. I was really surprised we did so well at British Camp as the cloud was down on the hills and I thought no-one would come! We had a lot or returnees but also some new families and returning families bringing more people along too. Three people joined making the total so far 16 in 7 membership units. It also seems likely we will be able to make up a whole school team from the Chase for the Schools champs.
I think the nicely placed full colour piece in the Gazette about one of our juniors winning his class at the schools score the previous week (plus plug for the event) probably did the trick.
