The racing is underway on the Long qualifier.
The courses for women 18km, 550m climb, 7 controls, and men 28km, 735m climb, 8 controls. Its expected the courses will offer more route choice on what will be longer legs and hard and fast but less technical riding.
Qualification is the top 20 in each heat, 60 Women qualify. So Janine Hensman is guaranteed, and Karen & Helen both only have to beat 1 other rider to qualify.
In the mens the top 20 from 43, 43 or 42 men qualify in the 3 respective heats.
Rick Featherston after some good rides at the Slovak Champs, replaces Phil Winskill who was reportedly carrying an injury into yesterdays Middle race. Phil can now rest up and concentrate on preparations for the relay on Friday.

Race going to form so far.
Karen in the tight heat but in touch with the pack only 5 mins off yesterays Bronze medallist at the 1st Radio.
Looks more open in Women B for Helen with large time gaps. Likewise in C Janine is already safely in at finish 7 minutes down on the current leader.
In the Mens only Killian thro but 17 mins down on leader.

So far 2 GB women have definately qualified.
Janine Hensman with a good ride in Heat C where it is about gaining a good start draw but not over exerting when all 20 women can qualify.
Heat A for Karen a great ride for her confidence, as she beats the 04 Long Champion by 2 secs. I know its relatively easy qualification but still good result. (you can tell I'm ever so slightly biased! )
Just yesterdays star Helen to appear at radio control.
A lot tougher for the guys. Andy Conn thro on Mens A but like Killian some 19 mins down.

Confirmed all 3 women qualify safely.
Helen finishes currently in 9th, hopefully saving some energy for the relay and Long final.
Liam Corner has potentially the best GB male ride so far. 16 guys to go thro radio control & he is currently in 14th there & at the finish currently in 8th, seconds could count!

With Just Andy S & Rick to finish of the GB guys, its looking like hopeful qualification for Liam in Heat B and Andy in Heat A. Liams position at the radio had him in 19th with just 1 guy to pass that control.
Likewise Andy S was in 18th with 4 guys to pass the radio.

Confirmed results bit slow in going up.
So with 2 guys to be timed on the A & 1 on the B, it looks like Andy Simpson and Liam Corner will represent the GB Men in the Long Final on Saturday.
Steve, Rick, Killian, and Andy C will ride the B Final.
My guess is that all the 62 women will ride the Long final, so the GB women were riding for start places in that final.
Tomorrow is a rest day and Friday the Relay.
More team news later.

A walk in the park for the girls given the numbers in each heat.
I feel for the lads. It looks like it was tough and hard and only half the team are through, if that???
I'm so glad Andy S is in after the middle day palava.
Let us know what you thought guys!
