I trust that all you eager, if occasionally disputatious, would-be reformers are planning to attend the Conference. It's just like a web forum but with added holograms!
And if you don't come - and put your views forward - you'll not be able to complain if BOF doesn't move in your preferred direction.
Please note that assistance with travel costs is available (through your club) and that club-only members are welcome - BOF needs your input on the membership proposals.
Details of the Conference are on the BOF site.
If you want to study the cost implications of the membership proposals, I have a spreadsheet thingy - I'd put it on nopesport if I knew how...

Can I just back up what John's saying - if you guys want a say, then get down to the conference! Important things concerning you all are being discussed - I'll get back to you with what these things are when I finally catch up with my big BOF pile after my three months away...
Will? We've got proper fire now!

As I'm away working on a residential that weekend , I reserve that right! Most inconsiderate of BOF to schedule it on a work day .

Cant see it flying in Scotland.
Regardless of how the fees are collected, and how one views RDOs, BOF cant expect Scots to stump up a big increase to BOF pay for the RDOs who do not operate in Scotland, as well as another big increase to SOA for the RDOs who do.
Except, perhaps, by scheduling the meeting far away on the weekend of our big club event. (11person-relay)
If we all pay more BOF levy for RDOs, then we should all get equal funding from BOFfor our RDOs.

I haven't even managed to buy my diary for next year yet, never mind figured out what I'm doing. Afraid my first priority should be the BOF meeting though, but it still all depends on my ever illusive timetable...

Funding for additional RDO days

Let's accept that this is a problem, for Scotland, for Wales and for those English Associations who have made, and funded, their own RDO arrangements. What, taking a critical but positive stance, follows?
Should BOF withdraw the whole RDO extension proposal? Should BOF add an extra sum to the membership fee in those Regions whose Associations indicate that they want to 'buy' this service provision from BOF? Should the service be funded, in participating Regions only, not by BOF but through Association and/or Club fund-raising? Should there be a 'mixed' solution, with BOF contributing part of the money from general membership funding and the participating Association finding the rest?
And are you, or someone who can champion your particular views, going to be there on the 24th to take part in the RDO discussion groups?

That is a matter for discussion on which reasonable people with different priorities could reach different conclusions.
Should BOF add an extra sum to the membership fee in those Regions whose Associations indicate that they want to 'buy' this service provision from BOF?
The present proposal is that BOF should effectively add an extra sum to the membership fee of one association (SOA, maybe NIOA), but not the others.
And are you, or someone who can champion your particular views, going to be there on the 24th to take part in the RDO discussion groups?
As I mentioned above, as SOA competitions convener I shall be convening an SOA competition
Any offers to champion my views?

Reply:But doesn't the 6-day still get a significant reduction from the standard levy to pay for the SOA development officer?
English regions funding their own RDO, but who don't get a levy rebate, perhaps have a more valid complaint.

No. We dont have an RDO-type person yet.
Perhaps you're thinking of Donald Petrie, who is employed by the six-day company and SOA (through a SportScotland grant) as Professional Officer. But he does, well, all the crappy jobs we can't get volunteers to do, not development.
The six-day is not run by SOA, it's run by the "scottish 6-day company". I don't know details about the levy - I think you're right, like the JK and BOC, there's some special levy.
But since the proposal is for a standard levy on all events, the current levy regime is not relevant anyway.

Directions
The information in "Focus" (and on the BOF web site) just gives the location of the EGM as "Great Barr Hotel, Birmingham" - no grid reference or post code, let alone a map. I know we orienteers are meant to be able to navigate, but ... !

Well, okay, they forgot the details. But have you tried navigating the web?
Type the string 'Great Barr Hotel' in your search box and Bingo!, you'll find the hotel's website! Click on the 'Directions' tab - and you'll find everything you need...
