Would Mrs H be like the rest of the club members in the past when it came to Monday afternoon and it was time to clear up? If she were, then she too would be packing up and off home whilst the handful of remaining officials dismantle and clear up. But i suppose it is different now?!
If this hasn't neen said. Poor choice of example as Mrs H ran the event centre and campsite at the JK and was thus not only first there at the weekend but also last to leave. Also She mans(womans) enquiries at most of our events and thus has to be available from the time the first competitors arrive until the time the later ones leave.

hmmm - sounds like someone should have gone to the PT instead.
On Day 1 i was still recovering from a large hangover and couldn't face starting. i arrived an hour after i was supposed to. but wait a minute, self starting....
started myself.
ran the course myself.
finished myself.
the only red tapes i got caught up in were at the run-in.

Don't know the details of awk's lateness but if it was HIS fault then tough cookies:):
That's why it wasn't changed- thanks Gross. My fault, so as you say, tough cookies.

For god's sake.
Some of the snide sniping comments on this thread are pathetic, if I was going to post something like that then I would hide behind guest status too.
Until I had grown up a bit at least.
If you have an issue with any individuals in EBOR, take it up with them.
If you have a specific complaint about something that affected you at the White Rose, then take it up with the organiser and/or controller.
Think of some of the generalised things that are being said about EBOR and its members (members who in the most part are probably blissfully unaware that giving up their weekend to help run the event as asked means that they are spiteful vindictive types trying to kill off goodwill in the sport). I suggest one or two on this thread would do well to think about how they would feel if similar generalisations were being aimed at an organisation that they are part of, and hence indirectly at them?
Ps - Gross - In the meantime please let us all know which the *right* excuses are to give to the starter when late at 6-day start - then in future all nopesport readers will be able to have start times amended if late!

Totally agree with the above post.
The negative tone of this thread is at great variance with my experience of the weekend. Gorgeous surroundings, tough terrain, a choice of teashops and pubs, good weather and the chance to socialise as well as run. i.e. just what you should expect of the White Rose. I also liked the basic idea of the new relay format.
With the family mug collection boosted by 5 over the weekend and Southdowners in general heading down the A1 (and it is a long way back to Brighton)the proud owners of 19 mugs. It was a very good weekend so many thanks to all those who helped put it on. It always impresses me that you do it every year.

another reason why the pointless bitching from "Guest"(s) should stop, this is a sport run by volunteers and as has been noted in other threads it tends to be an ever aging population of volunteers too thanks to offputting requirements deemed necessary, the sport doesn't need current and future event organisers, planners and controllers put off further by being faced by a barrage of abuse after events. Either have the guts to take it up with those you have a grievance with to their face or shut up.

To get back onto moaning at an orienteering event... On the last day of the scottish 6 day as usual there were praises ringing out for the organisation, folk from the likes of New Zealand, France and Sweden saying how it was one of the best orienteering holidays they had and the areas were fantastic, organisation great.
Then we got one man (I reckon he was about m50) from England who came up to tell the GRAMP/MAROC volunteers who had been helping out all week (not including me) that the AREAS were terrible and if he'd known what it was going to be like he'd have missed it. Can you believe that? He had just run on Glen Dye and was from down south, god knows what areas he was comparing it to. It just shows that you can't please all of the punters all of the time.

I reckon it was the same member of EBOR who's recently been on nopesport spotting off about how badly treated he is by his club

Could someone from our fellow YHOA clubs please offer our dissatisfied "guest(s)" from EBOR an invitation to join their club.
I'm sure you would benefit from their diplomatic and constructive support for your club activities
I do agree with Mrs H, quite an entertaining thread, albeit mis-guided.

Just to say I've received a very helpful response from the event co-ordinator.
I hope I'm not doing him an injustice when I say that he recognises the distinction between eligibility for prizes (a matter entirely for the club)and being non-competitive (a matter for BOF rules).
I gain the impression that the organising team are going to reflect on how this distinction could be best presented in the pre-event literature and in the results presentation.
I've said it before and I'll repeat it again; the courses I had to run at the event were absolutely fine. I will be back for more White Rose fare.

Apology and retraction
Regarding my earlier statement regarding 'the Chairman being above the Organiser (or thinking he is)', I will retract the comment, and apologise to Mr Chairman for my remark. Readers should kindly disregard this statements.
However, the remaining criticisms are true and entirely justified. If the coordinator and other officials use the Chairman as their spokesperson, (instead of voicing their objections themselves, then he must be the one held responsible.
