WOC 2005 Japan
OK... time is nearly upon us... teams are travelling to Nippon as we speak... so predictions please??? What about the relays... will GBR repeat their Swiss Performance....??? My predictions in a couple of days... just need some info first:)

My guess...
Pretty much everyone will come safely through the qualifiers, any failure due to mispunching, single big error or illness. A couple of top-10 results in the finals, men just on podium at the relay, women just off. No medals.
Best of luck to the team...

Is Novikov going now?
I reckon Finland in the medals for the women rather than Lithuania. But agree within the next 2 years LTU will feature in medals in women's relay.
Reckon every GB start at WOC can achieve top 20-30 place and fingers crossed for the top end sneaking podium places.
I am also hoping/expecting some great results from the host nation.

I know it is not right to make fun of foreigners' efforts at English (heck, I know how bad some Brits' English is let alone their attempts at other languages) but the World Champs blog (see right hand side of front page of the official site) just cracks me up. What is a "foot" in this paragraph?
"We closed an entry from each country / area for the time being by the end of April. As a result, a foot could include an athlete / an officer from 36 countries / areas, and 369 people, a trail could include a player / an officer from 12 countries / areas, and there were 59 entries. There is a country / the area where being similar have intention of an entry other than the thing that I was not in time for this deadline and now is taking confirmation. An athlete / an officer full name is to register itself by July 20."

There are formally four types of orienteering, called foot, ski, MTBO and trail.
Since the blog is self evidently about WOC entries for orienteers, the shorthand "foot" meaning "entry from a particular country for the foot orienteering discipline in this World Orienteering Championship event" is impressively concise.
Even if "foot" is a stupid name...
Graeme
PS. at least they know it's the World Championships, not the world cup.
