I'm doing a business project where I'm starting a hypothetical orienteering shop (and probably general running/navigation/something else related) and I'd really appreciate any comments/advice from any orienteers. I particularly need answers to the following:
where to have the shop
what to sell (general and specific stuff)
how to make it different from compass sport/ ultrasport etc
how often you buy kit/shoes etc and average amount you spend
any problems/improvements with existing suppliers/outlets
Also what would be helpful to know is what area of the country and club you are from and how often you train.
Thanks
SJ
Can you help with my orienteering project?

Ps. This will actually help us o plebs as the results are going to be passed around to the traders.
PLEASE PLEASE DO IT......
My name is Sarah-Jane Gaffney. I’m a maths student at Warwick Uni and the Secretary of UWOC (University of Warwick Orienteering Club) and am currently researching for a business project which involves setting up a hypothetical orienteering shop. It would be very helpful if you could take a few minutes to answer these questions: (when I say “equipment”, I am referring to kit, shoes, compasses, etc…)
What region do you live in?
Class (W20 etc…):
Club/squad:
How often do you orienteer and is this mostly competitions/family events/through university club?
How often do you buy equipment from Ultrasport/Compass Sport/specialist outdoors or running shops?
Do you prefer to buy online or at a shop/stall and why?
Where do you buy shoes and do you have favourite brands?
How much do you spend on an average visit to an outlet, and particularly how much on shoes?
Do you find that you have to wait for an event before being able to buy equipment, or are there any other inconveniences involved in buying equipment?
Are there any products in particular that are difficult to get hold of?
How far are you willing to travel to buy quality products for orienteering?
If a new shop was set up within a reasonable distance of where you live/work, what services/products would it have to offer to interest you?
In your opinion, are there any problems with any of the existing shops selling orienteering equipment in the UK?
Any other advice/opinions you could offer would be helpful…the more feedback the better, whether positive or negative! (Please continue on the back if this is copy). Thank you for your time.

Now, I know you're a feminist, and I think that's adorable, but this is grown-up time and I'm the man.
