Do they need to take the top team to the Nordics though? Sounds like a fantastic competition to run in but does it mean anything to a British Team? (I might be talking rubbish). If it doesn't, then why not send some other guys for the experience?

micro was fantastic to compete in. Athletes seemed to like it and it was good to watch too. Don't know what it was like on tv though. Very few athletes got all the controls right - majority got 2+ wrong. Some were quite tricky.

As a complete ignoramus on the ins and outs of international O nowadays, why do government priorities result in non-participation?
Other thing - can someone describe what Micro-O is please, or point to suitable site?

As far as how the micro-o looks on the TV, there was a report on the telly here on that as well. You can find it at this address http://svt.se/svt/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=21874 (it's probably on the SOFT website as well as they provide the footage normally)
Go to the "senaste video" section at the right hand side. Click on the scrolling menu and choose "Video övriga sport" and check out the "Premiär för microorientering" and "Medaljer till unga orienterare" clips. Some nice sweeping camera shots on (I think) the middle distance run-in.
The fact that neither me nor my parents knew that Ewan was running says a bit about the notice he had. Good to see that he got the call up though.

Here is the description on the Nordic Champs website:

It looks very interesting, an attempt to bring the penalty loop concept of biathlon (which makes fantastic TV) into orienteering.

Its funny to see the top athletes slowing and even stopping, when you are used to their smooth flowing navigation and running. Its an interesting idea, adds more spectator value

Because in comparison to the ten years of international performance behind Stevenson et al they are. Saying that doesn't belittle what they achieved at all, Scotia's run was brilliant.
