I use a model 11, left hand thumb compass. Pretty cheap, but fast setting needle, and seems to do the job!

don't know what model it is that i use. i bought it on the cheap after breaking my silva spectra thumb.
it does the job okay, but i have to admit i'd rather be using a spectra.

strangely I'd say exactly the same as mr. dover - except that it was the second spectra in two competitive runs that did it for me.
Actually I've got used to the Moscow now - having run on Sunday pretty much red-lining every leg I can't really say that a Spectra would be any better.
Model is I think the 3 ??? the fast/very stable one anyway.

I stopped using the Moscow compasses a few years ago for a few reasons. The moscow gets slow from banging it a lot quicker than the spectra and is also prone to getting bubbles. Also with the hole you put you thumb in on the moscow, during cold weather, my finger used to go numb very easily with my thumb against the map. The spectra has a nice warm rubber grip instead.

I'm using MOSCOMPASS 8 L Raduga (or Rainbow), which is the same as Silva Spectra, but with rotateble (i don't know the exact word
) capsule.
I think that the main advantage of those russian compasses is that you can buy 10 for the money you'll buy one Silva.
This is my second moscompass 8L for the last 10 monts, and I realised that the bubbles come very easy and it's veeery easy to break the glass.
I'm also using the russian magnifier - which is better that the swedish, cause it's on the compass (the little hole near the capsule is for it). I reccomend it to everybody who run fast and don't see the map, and also who read scandinavian maps.
