Fell Races
Does anybody have a list of fell races in the north of England which are coming up? Seems you have to be a member of the FRA to see their fixture list....

I am a member of the FRA and so have the fixture list which is pretty comprehensive. You can also find some races advertised on their web site http://www.fra.org.uk and other fell races are often publicised in Runners World magazine who also have a web site. I do not know the address. If you give me the dates and types of races ( long medium or short and type of climb)you are looking for and sort of area and I could let you know some. Membership is not expensive though ( maybe expensive for a student, sorry) and worth it.

I am just looking for races in the lake district or Northumbria in the next couple of months, but not the epic ones!

Tullie, what I do is find my local fell runners cluib and look at their fixtures list. Dark Peak's is pretty comprehensive, so I know what's on every week and how far how much climb etc. I reckon you should find your local/some northern Lakes running clubs and check out their fixtures.

Try the Cumberland Fell Runners site http://www.c-f-r.org.uk
There are some good mid week races, Two Riggs (wednesday week), Langstrath, Blencathra, Dockray (this wednesday), Coledale Horseshoe. Anyway check them out.

most of the local fell races are not on the dark peak website. there's usually 3 or 4 a week within 20 miles of Sheffield during the summer. some of the races that are coming up in the Peak district in the next month are:
MAY
tue 17 - burbage skyline, sheffield
sat 21 - white peak half marathon, matlock
mon 23 - trunce. penistone
wed 25 - shining tor, buxton
thu 26 - totley moor, sheffield
mon 30 - bamford sheep dog trials
tue 31 - hallam chase, sheffield
JUNE
wed 1 - calver peak
sat 4 - wincle trout, macclesfield
sun 5 - shining cliffs
fri 10 - castleton
sun 12 - edale (english and british championship race)
wed 15 - riber run
thu 16 - grindleford
sat 18 - hunshelf amble
sun 19 - kinder trog, hayfield
mon 20 - trunce, penistone
wed 22 - shelf moor, glossop
thu 23 - blackamoor chase, sheffield
fri 24 - tideswell
sat 25 - tansley hill race
sun 26 - bakewell pudding race
wed 29 - hope wakes
most of these races are quite short (between 4 and 6 miles) except for the kinder trog (18 mile) white peak half . There may be some more races further south from Sheffield but these are just the ones I know about. I'm gonna send a list (with more details) to craney so they should appear on the ShUOC website sometime this week.

just to put the dampers on Er's little joke
the FRA website http://www.fellrunners.org.uk/
not that it provides much in the way of fixtures info - their policy is to encourage you to join the FRA to get the calendar,
I'll bring it in tomorrow.

It was not meant to be a joke. Apologies - I should have checked the address. I had to ask Rockaldo to explain the joke - it was only when he clicked on the link that I realised I had directed people to the Flat Roof Association - who joins such an organisation ? People with flat roofs, I guess. Anyway pleased to see that you are going to be able to access all the info from the guide. I had been thinking about the alternative of breaching copyright to photocopy the pages and send by snail mail, but I am too law abiding to do such things.
