When rankings are calculated I presume they are only taken from the finishers. Am I therefore going to get less points cos I was the only finisher than I would, if the higher rank competitor who miss punched, had found the control?
If so I'm miffed cos I don't often beat her and I found the difficult control.
Anyone in the know?

Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Yes they are only taken for finishers and assuming you would have beat this other person if she'd finished then yes you will be down on points.
If you are the only finisher you'll never get a good score because you'll just get the average of all your events in the last year (not just your best 6).

I was just looking at the rankings myself. Does anybody know a link to the list of next seasons ranking events?

nope, but just go to any regional or national event and you'll get some lovely self-earned points.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

Lydney Park
Talking of ranking points...
Does anyone know why the results from NGOC's Lydney Park event last month have not made it onto the ranking events list?? It's been over a month now..

According to the BOF web site, clubs have upto 3 months to post the results.
However, because I always come towards the back of M40L, what I am interested in is how many ranking points I scored. (Lets face it, it hardly matters whether you came 22 out of 23, or 23 out of 23.) But, if I score 800 points plus then I'm delighted. On that basis, it's a bit of a shame to have to wait months for the only results that are of real interest.
Oh well..

All right, you scrawny beanpoles: becoming a cop is not something that happens overnight. It takes one solid weekend of training to get that badge.

You are right. I was looking at this (below) on the BOF web site, but your document is more recent.
Eight hours round trip to Lydney...
Submitting the Results File
* Time limits have been set for first and subsequent results submissions. A first submission must be made within 3 months of the event and any subsequent submissions within 6 months of the event. These limits may be reduced in future. If you have difficulty in meeting the first submission deadline you may register your intention to submit results at a future date.

I use rankings to see how "well" I did - it tends to give a better comparison than "I was 2 mins closer to Mr X, but 2 mins further from Mr Y", although not a great comparison (not that I have a better idea of how to do it). But in the real world if a club doesn't get its ranking scores in on time were hardly going to say they can't hold badge (sorry regional) events any more!
