Form changes from month to month, however i aver that class is more perminant. People don't just stop being world class because they get an injury. Maybe this season is a "no known form"er, but lets look at the 3rd in O-ringen overall last year prior to injury, selected for Nordics at 18, being 4th in both selection races, 7th and 21st in JWOC last year. When an athlete is world class like that they should be given the benefit of the doubt. How many other British Juniors have shown that potential?
They could send someone who might come top 60, might go next year, might still be orienteering in 2008. But why?
(That was not an acusation at anyone in the team, more a generalisation of what has happened to many juniors)

Just to round off what I said earlier, can I say that I'm really looking forward to spectating at JWOC and El an I are busy planning our outfits. I'm positive that whoever goes they'll beast it and get some top results for GBR - and I'll be supporting them all the way. Congratulations everyone.
And further in the younger classes - fantastic to see Anne Edwards in the start at last! She's worked so hard to get there and truly deserves the place.

Selection's a tough one. Yes as you say Mharky, once you've shown you are world class you don't lose it, and I can understand selection of such a person even if not proven fit for a few months. However somebody who's worked hard and could be world class given a chance has the right to be selected as well. As Mharky said in the other thread you can make selectors not ignore you by keep beating the top guys, but in the real world we're talking about people making the fringes, people who with a JWOC under their belt may go on to be at the very top in a few years. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the selections - I don't know enough about today's juniors to do so - I'm just saying don't forget the guys and girls who trained real hard to get what looked like a place. Obviously the selectors need to pick the best team - I agree with that. Sometimes it's the brave selections that pay off though.

Looking at the website, all the other countries entered take W/M16's as well as W/M18's and only Britain does not. Why is that? Surely if 16's got to go as well, it would be yet another opportuinity to get more race experience in before more prestigious things like JWOC?

i think the policy might have something to do with giving younger juniors (ie MW16s) more training experience rather than forcing them into international competition. it's not such a big international competition, that you only need to do one rung on its ladder to be worthwhile preparation for jwoc, if you see what i mean.
