Yes Becks you are being defensive..... good on you. I'm glad someone has spoken up for the IT crew.
And I'm sure some of the criticism is valid as well!
However, it is so unfair to keep having a go..... I can guess how the IT team are feeling. A bit of blind panic as they realise one or more bits aren't working, and then the sickness in the stomach as they get on with retrieving whatever they can. Thanks for staying on the job and doing what you can.
Over the years I've seen many failures, when we started taking flipover clocks, generators, PA systems, computers and SI equipment out into the forest. It is a horrible feeling when it fails, but you learn and get it right next time.
If I'm ever involved with live feeds at an event in the future I'll want to read your handbook, guys! It was a good try... well done!
anyone trying 2 find coverage of the relays?

also, so you can slag me off for being defensive, becky is a very clever young lady and is there, has talked to relevant people and knows what is going on. i would say her attitude and opinions are better than yours.
Actuallly I am NOT wrong. I never slagged off the IT team in anyway.... what I said was that the WC organisation hyped up what they were going to offer the non present public and then failed to deliver in spectacular form. It's like WOC '99 with the same organisers.... they failed miserably with regard to the media etc.... so this is there second chance.
As I said I'm a punter watching from outside - backroom problems don't impact on me!
I'm 100% certain the orienteering IT people put in a massive amount of work and are very disappointed with the results.... but they should be pleased with the way they have responded and recovered something.
But nothing can hide the fact that the promised armchair was not delivered.
And as for comments about my opinions.... well as far as I'm aware you've never spoken with me and to base judgement on an internet forum is a bit shallow

I think organisers might find strong opinions expressed on this thread very useful, in addition to their own feedback, to show providers of the stuff that didn't work, just how important live results to the web-based audience (and that one definitely exists for orienteering). Should add weight to argument for not paying for what you didn't get.
Please don't give up on this idea in the UK; live feeds from big events last year gave me the chance to feel involved and enthusiatic and proud about the elite end of O. Since I work lots of weekends and can't get to these events that's a really important part of keeping me involved in the sport .
Congrats to all the organisers and competitors for what sounds like a great World Cup weekend otherwise.

Yeah
Ifit's right - it would be a great shame if no-one tried in future.
The important thing now is what can be salvaged/learned from the exercise.
Who let the side down - the internet provider or the satellite company? (can't have been both surely) how much were they paid for the service? how much will the organisers hold back? and what worthwhile project will they put that money into? Perhaps some kind of follow up to the youth orintering festival that was held today at Battersea - how did that go by the way? are we going to get any budding champions out of it (or even willing volunteers?)
Let's think positive - we can only take stock - learn - and move on optimistically

Is anyone else having problems viewing the World Cup results/splits etc, or is it just me? I think all of the files are there, but it seems like some of the links could be pointing to the wrong place??

The official results for the 5-O classic were accidentally overwritten with todays sprint results at the end of the race, but that was fixed earlier this evening and all the world cup results were fine - give us some more details if you think anything else is broken.

It might be a firefox thing with the formatting of the link - I don't think it likes the backslash. For example the WCup Sprint final Men's A results I get the error:
The requested URL /WC2005/wcupres/statsprf/..\sprf\results_0001.html was not found on this server.

Could be - I tried to get the results on Cj's and they wouldn't work with Firefox but then worked fine on mine and Cery's when I got home.
Will? We've got proper fire now!

Yes Firefox won't like that but IE works it out. This is not to start an argument of which is the best browser please, just a statement of fact.

i would have pm'd gross- why arn't you a member?
the comment about attitude+opinions was in reference to this topic, not generally, sorry. -as you said, we've never spoken. however, the things posted on a discussion forum should be serious, and so forming ideas about people's opinions by reading their posts is entirely appropriate i would say.
anyway, as has been said, it is best to take as many positives from this as possible. i am sure the uk will get another chance to wow the home-bound public with hi-tec coverage of our ace sport.

Pictures are better than words because sometimes words are big and hard to understand.
