Neil Northrop
Rhys Findlay-Robinson
Will Spain
Rob Little
Matt Dickenson (all Sheffield ish)
Ed Nicholas (Edinburgh)
Womens Team
Sarah-Jane Gaffney

Lizzie Adams (Sheffield ish)
Anya Crocker (Cambridge)
The event was held North East of Leek by the army in conjunction with some other army championships and the TA championships (so lots of familiar faces such as Becky Kingdon, Amy Pennington, Rory Matheson etc)
We parked in a pub / club which boasted that it was the highest altitude club in Britain, and from there it was a short bus ride to the area which was simply called 'Leek' but it was really the Leek & Upper Hulme Army Training Areas.
The area was a mixture of marshy open fields, marshy tussocks and marshy knee deep heather. Did I mention it was a bit marshy? Steep sided valleys and slopes dissected time and time again by dry stone walls and fences meant it was a bit of an exercise in a) finding crossing points and b) climbing (remind you of Brown Clee anyone?)
Starts were two minute intervals, but with the open nature of the area, it was possible to watch each runner for about 10 minutes before they disappeared into the valleys. To be continued...

The men had 10.2km with 330m climb and the women had 5km with 210m. I mentioned before it was marshy - I had to run through almost knee deep mud before the start triangle and it didnt get better. The courses were tough, muddy, wet, steep in places (both up and down). Sometimes it was better to run through a stream just to avoid the mud on either side of it. The knee - deep heather was often impossible to run through, especially when it was combined with knee deep mud beneath it and slopes that could have been straight out of the trossachs.
Having said all that it was fantastic fun - a really good physical challenge. You had to be in the right frame of mind I think, but the course (not sure about the girls) was both challenging and technical.
Some of the team struggled for motivation and / or fitness, but I'm pleased to say the students won. I think the results will be up at http://www.emituk.com at some point but they arent yet.
From what I can remember -
GG - 67.46
Neil - 75ish
Little Rob - 82ish
Will Spain - 84ish
Kelleher 84 and a bit
Matt - 88ish
Eddie - 89ish
Rhys - 93ish
James - more
best 7 to count, cumulative time about 572ish mins
army best 7 about 578ish so really close (times for them rich barrett 78, ski sharp 79, colin dickson 81 then not sure, all around 82 - 90)
lizzie - 47 ish
hazel - 50something
anya - 50 something and a bit
caroline - 69
shimona and sarah-jane - 69+
best 4 to count, cumulative time about 228ish mins
army best 4 260ish mins (sorry cant remember results)
so students thrashed army women and edged army men for victory
We were presented with the traditional Stag Trophy which went back the Sheffield with Lizzie Adams and the whole team were presented with engraved Crystal glasses.
The whole event was very low key but very enjoyable and well organised by the army.

Does anyone know anything about Civil Service Orienteering, contacts or anything, and whether it has it's own Championships?
Also (because I seem to want to join every club I am entitled to!)does anyone knwo anything about the existence or otherwise of the University of London Orienteering Club?

civil service orienteering club
I know a bit about civil service orienteering club (being the one person who was there last week - who was then dq'd for not being able to use emit!!). Apparently Diane Leakey generally usually organises a team but is obviously very busy with the world cup and no one else wanted to organise. I only started work 2 months ago and only knew about the club because the match last week was advertised as busa v civil service v combined service.
if you pm your email address I can forward you some details.
