Back to the subject rather than underwear
One of the best finishes I've been at was at some 4-day event in France. The last day took over a town square and the finish was running into the square from the forest. What an atmosphere, not to mention advert for the sport! A unmanned flag in the middle of the forest may be a more technical finish but I think we need the atmosphere of the finish at least.
Ps I also beat JSWC that day.

The location of the download is often determined by the ability to house the downloaad equipment, and it is advisable to have the download close to the finish to catch the errant few! So surely we ought to have less finishes in the forest and more at the edge of assembly, where all the facilities are. The idea of a nice finish assembly area in the middle of the forest doesn't hold when you want toilets caterers etc as vehicular access is required for this so JK 2005 Relays was probably the exception.

..and another reason for having a manned finish is that at a District event I went to and was a late starter the person who programmed the SI Finish units got the time wrong and they shut down 1 hour before courses closed, so I arrived at the Finish and punched but nothing happened...arghhh, luckily there was somebody at the finish and he recorded my time on his watch (and I had stopped my timer on my watch) before legging it back to get some new units programmed. Unlikely to happen again, does lightning strike twice?.

At a 5-day event, I lost my SI card en route to #1. Trotted round, punched my map got to the finish and explained what happened. Being obliging types they agreed to reinstate me. Not having a finish time they gave me the time at which they did so, which gave me a time
of 8 hours and 4 minutes.
