If your doing science then you'll be at KB, which is miles away, so you wouldnt want anything near darroch court, which is where all the good self-catering flats are.
they gave you a map of the places right?

pollock is alright. i was in the posh bit but you still get to meet normal people!
plus you get to meet loads and loads of people because there are more people around and dinner time is really sociable.

Yes, I quite like the sound of that.
Eventually got a map downloaded off the website, and Darroch Court seems like a bit of a long haul to get to KB every day.
Glad I'm hearing good things about Sciennes/East Newington/South Clerk Street area, these seem to be the best location.
Everyones mentioning that you'll meet more people if staying at Pollock, so are the self-catering people not welcome to chill out around Pollock too then? I didn't think that would be a problem.
And how do I go about obtaining these free meals...?
I want to walk up the side of the mountain, I want to walk down the other side of the mountain. I want to swim in the river, lie in the sun. I want to try being nice to everyone.

Anywhere on this maphttp://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=55.9383&lon=-3.1805&scale=25000&icon=x would be fine. The main Edinburgh University campus is at the top of the map where it says Mosque and the science campus is at the bottom where it says 2 miles. Arthurs' Seat, Meadows and Blackford Hill are great for runnings. Names of areas to look for are Bruntsfield, Marchmont, Scienes, Newington, Southside, Grange. The grid is 1km squares so everything is pretty compact.

Hello Mike!
When are you coming? Things get very tight during the festival in August.
Dave suggests the main university area, another option close to the Science Campus is to look a bit further south: further from the centre and therefore cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestions on locations. The plan is to be there from March to July of next year as part of my 6 month research leave. Using this also as prep for WOC (as last year was a major dissapointment - no Ben I didn't smash anything except my ankle) so I'd like to get in some major events. I also hope to take part in some international relays.
Thanks again for the help.
