As I'm unfortunately not going to be at the JK, I also won't be able to go the the BOF AGM. So still wanting to take part in BOF democracy decided to fill in the proxy voting form. However, on reading the small print at the bottom of the form I notice that the default for voting is a show of hands at the meeting, in which case, ALL PROXY VOTES ARE IGNORED. Why do BOF bother to go through the pretence of allowing a proxy voting system when the likelihood is that the votes are just going to be consigned to the nearest bin? Democracy indeed...
And to anyone attending the AGM, please please please demand a formal poll, so that the votes of all of us unable to attend can be counted.
And a second suggestion, maybe someone could suggest that whilst they are rewriting the memorandum & articles to accomodate a few of the inconsistencies identified in the membership discussions, they could also address the voting issue?

Can anyone confirm that whether we are wasting our time with proxy voting?
Will the proxy votes be cast or only under exceptional circumstances?

Don't know about nowadays but proxy votes worked in the past:) I printed some proxy forms off at a BUSA Champs social in Ediburgh.... no one was allowed in unless they signed a proxy over to me.... hey presto.... elected onto BOF Council..... now you know why I'm in Eastern Europe... home from home:)

I assume (well, hope) that the show of hands will only apply if the vote is overwhelming (as most are).
Only contentious issues need go to a fully counted vote, otherwise we'll be there all night.

Not true, the proxy forms allow a vote on a restricted number of issues. The votes have to be in well in advance so should be counted before the meeting. A quick show of hands plus the weight of the proxy votes should not take long at all.
